@periwinklebee: Having MS doesn't seem to affect getting pregnant. During pregnancy, many women find their MS symptoms stay the same or even get better, especially during the third trimester. But if you have MS, you may be more likely than other women to have: A small-for-gestational-age baby.

@Anagram: Interesting point about garlic, most of the things you listed have been a disaster all pregnancy, but I hadn't thought of garlic. I was cooking more with it this week after not having used it for a long time, definitely going to try eliminating.

@MaryM: Thank you, good to know!

Nexium! I was originally prescribed 2 Zantac a day with Gavascon for breakthrough burn, but it just wasn't enough so then I was switched to Nexium and it did the trick.

You can also try avoiding all acidic foods, caffeine, coffee, tea, tomato sauce, dairy, nightshades, onion, garlic, etc.

@Mamatimes3: @matador84: @NorthStar: @Mrs. Microscope: Thank you everyone! It seems like it can be all over the place in terms of what foods trigger it... but it's encouraging to hear so many people found zantac or something similar helpful. Will try sleeping propped up as well.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it above, but have you tried to sleep at a bit of an angle, with your head/chest propped up on pillows? That helps me a ton! And of course the zantac/prevacid, etc. Are great ideas too, just something easy to try.

@periwinklebee: Tums definitely made it worse, but Zantac was amazing! The mint one, especially. Walgreen and Target even sell a generic version that works just as good.

Dairy/milk and chocolate are common culprits, so I would always avoid those from late afternoon through the evening. On evenings that I had milk or chocolate, I definitely regretted it. Good luck!

I had extremely severe reflux with my first and was constantly throwing up/gagging. 300mg of Zantac and a few runs also is what has helped me with this pregnancy.

@periwinklebee: Diet didn't help at all. Anything at all would make it happen. Just part of pregnancy. But the daily Zantac made it better.

Tums and ranitidine/zantac did nothing for me. In fact, I think tums made things worse. I was miserable for 66% of my first pregnancy until I started taking Nexxium. AMAZING stuff, gods gift to reflux-sufferers. OB said it was totally fine. So I take it daily during this pregnancy. It's a total game changer

@periwinklebee: I've had the same exact symptoms this pregnancy (39 weeks today) and started throwing up again around 20 weeks. Mine was only in the evening & I contributed it to acid reflux. I tried tums but they didn't work long term. My doctor strongly suggested Zantac & it has been a total lifesaver---still taking it daily, once in morning & once before dinner. Things with high fat & very acidic food got me. Also, make sure you don't Lay down for 2+ hours after eating. I've also found drinking milk with dinner and/or if I feel acid helps neutralize it.

@josina: Ugh..that sucks. I may pick up some tums tonight. I was just reading in another post that they make other pregnancy digestive symptoms worse for some people, but seems worth a try!

I've taken Zantac frequently with all of my pregnancies. I usually take it as a preventative before dinner as the evening seems to be when I have the most trouble.

@Mamatimes3: @snarkybiochemist: Thanks, I have an appt next Monday and am going to talk to my doctor about potential medications. That's interesting to know that it's not particular foods but different for everyone - I haven't been eating greasy/spicy stuff anyways, so I was a bit stumped, but that makes sense. Pregnant bodies are so weird. :silly:

I had awful acid reflux in the 3rd trimester with both pregnancies... I would wake up choking on stomach acid, it was awful.
I took tums and zantac.

I went on prevacid at 14-15 weeks with heartburn and will be staying on it through the end. Talk with your doctor about medicines as to avoiding foods, I was told to keep a food log for a week or so to see if I could pin point anything making it worse not everyone is triggered by the spicy/greasy foods the internet tells you to avoid.

I'm 17 weeks along, and have mostly enjoyed a break from the MS since the end of first tri, but the past few days the puking is back with a vengeance. I was fairly sick first tri, but by the beginning of second tri I was able to start eating more foods and the puking was mostly gone (though I still need diclegis). The past few days the sickness has come back, but it seems a bit different than the all day yuckiness of first tri. I feel mostly ok during the day but will feel increasingly blah as the evening goes on. When I try to lie down for bed (about four hours after dinner), I feel like the contents of my stomach are trying to come back up my esophagus, culminating in a bunch of puking and then I'll feel more or less ok.

Did anyone have their MS come back later in pregnancy due to acid reflux? I think that's what this is? And if so, any good remedies/foods to avoid? Thank you!!!
