@PinkElephant: I dont think there is a plastic lining. I ended up texted my SIL since they go to the pool regularly and she said the swim diaper we had is fine as long as its tight to hold in the poop.

The swimming instructor never asked what we had for a diaper or anything.

@Umbreon: You've probably already asked at the pool by now, but is there a full plastic liner inside of that? Our pool requires either a disposable swim diaper with plastic pants (Gerber sells them) over the top, or a swim diaper that has the full plastic lining (and even then, some lifeguards will ask you to put one of the white Gerber ones over it).

Just telling you this since you're new to the swim diaper game so you're not surprised if the rules are a little different someplace else! Other parents/lifeguards might tell you not-so-nicely if there have been recent poop incidents that messed up their plans at the pool, hehe :)

We went with just the one swim diaper and it was fine! He rarely poops in the evening so I wasnt worried anyway.

I think he had fun! The class is super small so DH will be able.to join us next time too.

@JCCovi: I missed the swim part. Haha. I thought they were asking for disposables with a reusable swim cover on top, which would be crazy.

I have accidentally washed regular disposable diapers a few times somehow. My washing machine got angry.

@Petitduck: Disposable swim diapers don’t swell, because they don’t absorb pee. Just there as a double layer against poop.

@JCCovi: what??!! That’s crazy. They just swell up. I guess unless you had a leak proof over top.

@BUNBUN: I made this mistake after swimming with my 2 year old once. I had no diapers and put an extra one of those on and then we went shopping. Cue me being super confused why her fleece one piece was soaked an hour later. That’s when I discovered how little swimmers work! Lol.

@Umbreon: my pool must be really relaxed because I have seen babies (3-9 months old) with just a swimsuit on. Those parents are brave.

@Umbreon: You're good! The swim places in my area usually ask for disposable + regular combo

@graceandjoy: a disposable swim diaper or regular diaper?

This is what it says online: Non-toilet trained infants/toddlers must wear leak-proof swim pants or garments of a similar nature.

Every pool we’ve belonged to has required a disposable swim diaper with a cloth swim diaper over it. Just a heads up! They usually sell the disposable ones at the pool at outrageous marked up prices.

Thank you! Just wanted to make sure, definitely don't want them to have to close the pool because of us!

@BUNBUN: yes, there is velcro and ties. Our boy is pretty tiny, so DH thought this would be the best for him as we could tighten it as much as possible

Yes, just make sure it can get TIGHT to keep the poop in when baby is wet and slippery. Are those ties? Mine had elastic and snaps.
TIP: if you want to dress baby before heading to swim lessons, put a disposable diaper on OVER the swim diaper to protect your car seat!

First swimming lesson tonight! DH went out and bought a swim diaper, this is what it looks like. This is all he needs? It's super thin so I just wanted to make sure. I read that swim diapers don't keep the key in, so I guess it makes sense that it doesn't feel absorbent?
