Our girl name we like is pretty popular so we've chosen a middle name and she could go by both names - think Sarah Jane Jones going by Sarah-Jane (not the names) - could you do this?<br /> I also agree with others that it depends on how often your kids are going to see each other/play together. Does the step-grandnephew go by a nickname? Could you call them Jacob &amp; Jake if they are in the same place? If its someone you see on a regular basis, I'd probably look for other names. If he's a far-flung relative you see 2-3 times a year, I wouldn't worry about it. The LOs sound like they'll have different last names too, since it's your sister's step-grandson. In the past few months we have fallen in love with a name. We don't know what we are having yet, but if boy, that would be it.</p> <p>So I'm laying in bed last night when a horrible thought comes to mind - my nephew, who is only 4 years younger than me, got married a year ago and now has a 3 year old stepson. I've never met the child, but just remembered his name is the same as our top pick! So I technically have a great-nephew with that name.</p> <p>Would it be completely insensitive and horrible to consider naming my child the same name as my sister's step-grandson? </p>
