@yoursilverlining: haha! I needed to hear that! I think we'll experiment with daycare before we make any rash decisions :P

Your LO sounds just like our step-neice, who is now 8. I've known her since she was a little over a year old and she has always loved *everyone* (especially babies and kids), wanting to give hugs and snuggle in your lap. She's a total sweetheart.

She has a brother, and isn't really that way with him; they fight like typical brothers/sisters...haha, so I don't know that having another baby would make that much difference for her! ;-)

She is still extremely sweet and loves to hug people even now. She has no social anxiety and never has had any; so I think it sounds a lot like this might be your LO's personality, too!

Omg this thread is making me a warm and fuzzy! It's sooo sweet when littles are super huggy and stuff. Maybe a sibling isn't a bad idea ;). Heheh. Maybe play groups or play classes so she can have more social interaction with kids her age. Idk but sounds so cute!

LO used to be obsessed with babies, it really seems to have passed. When he was maybe closer to a year or so old, he'd be fascinated by other babies when we were out and about, want to read stories about babies, etc. He's still very social, but now he's all about the older kids :)
He sees plenty of babies at daycare, and his teacher says he's fine with them and will happily try to "help" give them bottles or hand them toys, but there's not the "OMG BABY" fascination he had a year ago.

I think on some level it's developmental: like recognizing a face. But, P is obsessed with babies. Like, cried big fat tears when I took away a magazine that had a page full of babies. She also hugs and kisses every baby she meets, points out every baby at the store (in person and in ads/on boxes), and loves her baby dolls so much. My sisters say that she is a natural Mom, and DH thinks it's a woman thing. That somehow she is wired to love babies and want to nurture. Who knows! :)

@lil owl: @zippylef: thanks for the input, she has shown signs even before. It's kind of surprising because DH and I aren't social. Oh man ... we might have to push our talks about another soon.

My vote would be personality too. C is like that. She loves other kids and people. I have friends with kids who hate anyone they dont know and just cry.

I always thought recognizing it's a face and not a random pattern and later that the one “face” is alive and the other isn't are developmental things, but liking or disliking “others” is a personality thing. (when I remember my developmental psychology right... Don't now if that helps at all.)

@Andrea: aww that's so sweet! Thank you for responding. I actually hope it's more of her personality coming out, but I guess I won't know just yet.

I don't know which it is, but DD has always been the same way. She is pretty social and she loves other kids/babies. She is very nurturing to her baby sis now and other kids at school, too. They always tell me that she comforts other kids when they cry. So maybe it's more of a personality thing?

DD gets so excited when she sees other babies. I first noticed this at around 10 months when I played a video a friend of mine posted up on FB of her LO. Since then, I've noticed her lighting up whenever she sees other babies even in pictures. She's also starting to hug and say "hello" to stuffed animals or anything that has a face. It can be a tiny crocheted cucumber thing she got from the hospital and she's hugging it now.

Is this a typical developmental thing or more of a personality trait or both? It kind of breaks my heart because we're content with just one, but her recent behavior has gotten me to think about giving her a sibling.

But if it's developmental, then maybe putting her into daycare a little sooner might be enough. Or maybe I'm putting a lot more meaning into her actions. I don't know.

Did your LO experience this phase? Is it more a developmental behavior or do you think it's more of her personality coming out? If your LO acted like this, was it just a phase?
