I think it's a bruise too. I've totally overdone it when trying to undo a clogged duct. Hope you feel better!!

@BabyBoecksMom: I've been massaging obsessively. I have more success by hand massaging than I do with pumping -- I've never been a successful pumper.

I don't feel a lump any longer, but the pain is wedge shaped if that makes sense. It's definitely isolated pain, and is sensitive to touch. Like, holding the baby on my right hip puts pressure on my right breast and causes immense sensitivity and pain. Or leaning on the counter, etc

It's quite possible that I overdid it and this is a major bruise!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: How much have you been massaging it? Is it only when pumping/nursing? There were times when I massaged it way too hard and it hurt like hell for a couple days. But, if you feel a wedge-shape knot in your breast, then there is still probably a clogged duct and you'll need to pump the hell out of it to get it out.
Do you have a hand pump? I found it was easier to get the clog out with a hand pump because I could hold the suction

@blackbird: it's in an unusually sensitive spot so I think that's exasperating it!

I had clogged ducts galore the first 6 months. It was so painful. Like I couldn't even put my arm down or move it too much without cringing in pain. Even if I was able to relief some pressure from the clogged duct, but didn't completely remove the clog, it would clog back up and hurt super duper bad again.

As other ladies have posted, after I was able to completely remove and empty my breast, it was sore/achy for a day or two afterwards. It got a good beating from that's for sure!

I agree with @Miss Ariel: that you likely bruised it when you tried to work out the clog.

I had something similar happen to me recently. After two days of all the tricks that normally get rid of them, starting feeds on that side, massaging, warm showers, it seemed to be making it worse. I left it alone after that and a few days later realized it had gone away. I could be wrong but I think it was just a bruise somehow?

@blackbird: I don't think so. This breast has always been my less producing one, and now that I've worked out this could-be-clog, it's a milk machine. That's the only reason I'm thinking I "got" the clog, because it's producing so much more milk than it did five days ago.
It just hurts like a beast.

Any chance you have a bleb hiding? I was in pretty serious pain Sun-Wedn, and on Thursday, noticed i had a significant area that wouldn't drain that went through Friday night. I didn't see anything, though. I had to pop T off because the pain while nursing was killing me. I literally couldn't do it. And then I found the teeny tiny blebs and once I got them out, I was able to drain them (still sore, but no rock hard rivers of milk trapped feeling, plus i could literally see it draining in the shower). But i felt bruised for at least a good day or two. I'm only feeling back to normal today. The pain and the blocked duct was really my only symptom before.

I would at least call your OB or maybe an LC in the area, there is one. I remember my plugged ducts were pretty tender for a few days after releasing the plug. Tylenol and applying heat helped. Good luck!

My 11 month old went on a nursing strike from my right breast for a day or two, and in that time span I developed what I think could have been a clogged duct.

I pumped, have been massaging and never felt what I would call a typical clogged duct but there is a very painful area on the inside and underside of my breast.

I started to worry about mastitis, but the only symptom I have is the wedge shaped pain. I don't have a fever, chills, redness or anything else.

But the pain is horrendous and won't subside. It's been since Saturday, so today is day 4 without relief.

Could this be bruising from releasing a clogged duct or should I be more concerned and calling my OB? I'm not even really sure what to say to her if I call!
