@PrincessBaby: I just used some of that ointment on my head and was looking online for adverse nursing warnings. I also read it can be used on nipples while nursing so I wouldn't sweat it.

Eta- coconut oil and a layer of aqua phone over it does wonders for our skin issues when they crop up.

Bactroban can be used on nipples during breastfeeding for cracked, infected nipples I believe. So I'd think its ok but call the ped just in case.

The NZ data sheet for Bactroban says to avoid using it around the nostrils of infants but I'm not sure why your pedi would prescribe it if it wasn't safe (hopefully he/she realises that babies put everything in their mouths!)?

Here's the link:

Today our ped prescribed a topical antibiotic for around my LO's mouth after she had some irritated skin. I put it on her earlier today and bc it's an ointment, it doesn't really absorb very fast. I nursed her and noticed that some got on my boob and she will occasionally pop on and off and I worried she may have ingested some. She also will put her fingers on her face, where a little of the ointment rubs off and then she will put her fingers in her mouth.

I just went to check on her bc she has been really restless all night and I noticed her laying in the crib awake tossing and turning. Even though we are sleep training, I felt like I needed to go check on her, so I did. Of course once she saw me, she was hysterical, so I nursed her. While I was in there, I went ahead and reapplied the topical (it just looks so bad! Even in the dark!), and she moved and smeared some on the boob. So I switched her to the other side, but she kept popping on and off and I know she smeared some on the boob, I just couldn't tell if it was in a place where she could have ingested it.

The medicine is mupirocin/Bactroban.

Now I can't sleep bc I'm worried about her being poisoned or something!
