I really like the colors on @loki: quilt. I think the Orange and red don't quite go with those shades of blue quite right. Maybe a more maroon red and reddish orange or a green instead of the red or orange.

It seems boyish to me as well. I would take out the dark grey and the red to make it more neutral. Maybe add a cream or white if you want another colour.
I've seen lots of cute orange gender neutral rooms. :)

We're trying to have a gender neutral baby registry (and we don't know the gender yet, but will before birth.) For everything I add, I ask myself, "Would I register for this knowing it's a boy?," then "Would I register for this knowing it's a girl?"

The palette in your original post looks a little boyish to me, but it really depends on how you do it. What matters is whether you would be happy with it if it's a girl. If you think you'd want to redo it or you'd consider it too masculine if you had a girl, then it's too masculine. If you'd still love it for a girl, go with it.

I think those are great colours for a nursery and I'm really liking the alphabet theme. Also love that bedding you posted!!

We were team green and our nursery is red, blue, yellow, green. I think you have to go with what you will like. Also the bolder colours I think last longer than just the baby stage.

I think your palette in your original post looks a little boyish, but not at all because of the teal. We have teal in our girl color scheme and it definitely looks girly!

I think the linens/bedding that you posted later definitely look gender-neutral though.

My DH also loves orange and we used similar colors to yours (gray, blue, green and orange) but they were brighter, and we did the furniture and walls neutral so that the colors popped. I totally think our nursery is gender neutral. It worked great for LO1 (boy) and we are reusing the same nursery for LO2 (girl) with a couple coral accents just because I wanted to spruce it up just a bit. I think the bedding you found is beautiful, and perfect for a girl or a boy! :) I do tend to see brighter colors as more gender neutral and the darker colors as more masculine, but like a pp said, you want a room YOU love to look at...your baby isn't going to care :)

This picture is of his original nursery...but I linked below to the blog posts about the original nursery as well as the updated nursery if you want to see more pictures :)

Agree the bedding is neutral. I think that the patterns you use with those colors could help make a room look more masculine/feminine...for example, turquoise quatrefoil pattern reads "girl" to me even though it's blue, but the same colors in stripes or checks looks more masculine.

I guess I have a different take on nursery decor than most people do. I feel like you should pick colors that you like and that you feel comfortable looking at for hours of nursing and diaper changes. The baby is not going to care if the colors line up with society's understanding of gender norms.

Leans boy to me. I'd cut the gray and the red, personally... although it could work if you kept the walls pale and used the red as more of a small accent.

@MrsBrewer: i love the idea! I also really like your idea of teal, orange, and gray. We have a lot of orange in our nursery, which we designed to be gender neutral. It had a few splashes of hot pink, too, but I decided that I would swap out hot pink for red if we had a boy. We didn't so I kept it!

Gah! Sorry for the confusing poll, that was my fault!!

Thanks for all the input!! :-) I might be leaning more towards just the teal, gray, and orange. Probably leaving out the red and light blue colors. I can see I guess how it might come off as masculine.

Also our nursery "theme" is going to be the ABC's. I'm going to do something like this on one of the walls.

We are also :teamgreen: and I have to keep telling people that the things we've bought and the stuff on our registry does not reflect secret knowledge that we're having a boy. It's just most stuff that isn't pink, purple and sparkly gets interpreted as boy. Other people's stereotyping is the problem; not your color palette.

it's a bit more masculine but i think you could soften it up by adding some more pastels... i just love the colour scheme of that PBK set and think it's very unisex and might be good inspiration for you!
