Okay, I ordered it. I was getting something from STP anyway and with a discount it only ended up being $15. He can use it in the spring anyway.

@Mrs. Jacks: I LOVE downtown Hamilton!! May I highly recommend the Blodgett Canyon hike followed by the brewpub? Maybe not in winter though, haha.

@jedeve: LOL... Not weird at all. I don't put it on for the 10 seconds to the car, but usually we are going somewhere (downtown Hamilton or to Missoula) and they need the down jackets once we get to the destination.

I'll be there just after Christmas by the way!

I guess it depends on how much he'll be outside? If you're just taking him from a warm house to a pre-heated car, that would be fine; you can always wrap him up in a blanket before he gets in the car and then tuck it over top of him in his carseat, for extra warmth. If he's spending any amount of time outside, though, I would also get a zero degree snowsuit. Right now, I put my kids in the car in the garage (where it's warm) and then put on their puffy jackets once we get to our destination. It's a little bit of a pain, but it works for us.

Hmm...maybe I'll use this jacket for the carseat and invest in a down for days he is actually outside?

@Mrs. Jacks: Do you mean you use the down for the when they are playing outside, or do you put it on for just the walk from the door to the carseat? I realize that might be the dumbest question ever. But on the other hand it was snowing when I left for work today and I am not wearing socks or stockings or a coat. I've lost all sense of reality!

When we're in MT we do a light fleece with a puffy down that we remove when we get in the car. I feel like they need more than the fleece.

I get 3 of those every year for my son. He wears them until they are fraying and I like to have options if one gets dirty. I get them at TJMaxx though, for about $15.

@jedeve: oh, also wanted to add: in my research about this fleece I read many reviews that said the Steens Mountain II version of this jacket is not as soft or thick. So avoid it-- it was cheaper than the original version on amazon but we ended up ordering the original just in case.

We just ordered this exact jacket for both of my kids for winter! We're in Massachusetts so I think the winters should be pretty similar.. you may be a little more north than us... We plan on using these in the car and layering puffy jackets over them on REALLY cold snowy days. They're cozy and comfy and wash very well! We love them!!

ETA: We ordered them because we got a hand-me-down one that my older one grew out of, and we loved it so much so we ordered the same thing :)

LO is 10 months old. I know they say not to do big puffy jackets and carseats. Do you think this one will work?
