@Mrs. Pen: you sound so much like me. I feel like I could have written that. Sometimes I feel so guilty for being so exhausted since I'm home all day, but I am just so constantly tired all the time. I feel like since I'm a SAHM I should have the energy to cook, clean, etc, but I can barely get through the day with LO. By the time she's in bed at 630PM, I'm literally jello on the couch :(

@Mrs. Pen: Poor you! I felt that exhausted during my first trimester and during the beginning of the newborn stage, but that has faded for me. I know everyone's tolerance levels are different but I think checking in with your doc (once you find one) is worth a shot. Good luck!

@wheres_c: good to know! Did you see your pcp for it? I need to find a pcp. I haven't had a doctor since I was a teen and was still seeing my ped.

@twoofeverything: @Mrs. Pen: I also have hashimotos. I take a daily pill of synthetic thyroid hormone and feel much better.
Vitamin B12 & 6 help as well.
I think it is genetic because after I was diagnosed, my mom got hers checked and had issues too.

Either way, its worth having a checkup since there are several treatable reasons why you might be tired.
Either you'll find out how you can help yourself.....or know it can be chalked up to mommy hood.

@MamaCate: depends on how you define exhausted. I have no motivation. The worst days I sit in my chair while LO plays and feel like falling asleep at the thought of preparing his meal. I take naps at least once a week while he naps. I dread bedtime routine because of how much energy it consumes. I hardly make dinner or resort to really easy stuff because I don't have the energy to cook. DH does the dishes because I can't keep up with them everyday. I have never been this lazy in my entire life and I hate myself for it.

@wheres_c: what can they do for thyroid issues? Are they genetic, my mom has tons of thyroid issues although they weren't an issue until she was in her 40's.

OMG I was actually just wondering this same thing! My LO STTN and I'm a SAHM so I feel like there should be no reason why I'm so frickin' EXHAUSTED all the time. I got my thyroid and everything checked out - normal. Ugh, so sick of being so tired all the time.

I think tired can be normal but exhausted seems like a concern if it is constant. I am rarely exhausted anymore and my LO is a few months older than yours. Tired, yes.

Could you be anemic? How is your diet? Do you take a vitamin? It might not hurt to rule out any medical issue like thyroid or something else.

Yes! I have been more tired since they started STTN...I think my body doesn't know what to do and needs another 6 months to recover from the sleep deprivation.
And ditto on the thyroid check. I found out that I have Hashimoto's (underactive) Thyroiditis. Not fun, but good to know. I feel a lot better now that it's under control.
Hang in there :-(

I am always tired. Whether I get 5 hours or 8 hours of sleep, I'm exhausted all the time. J started STTN just before his first birthday and I'm still just as tired as I was when he was waking 2-4x a night.

I feel this isn't normal... or is motherhood just a state of perpetual exhaustion?
