I'm on month 5 and pretty much have 2 weeks of nothing, 1 week of spotting, and one week of period (so like 2 weeks on 2 weeks off) it's nothing what I expected and kinda sucks and puts a damper on things.

@Mae: Oh my gosh you really stuck it out!!!

I knew some bleeding could be expected but I was thinking maybe a couple of weeks, once it got to a month, and then six weeks, I was over it already!

The doctor gave me nuva ring to try. I had it in college but I feel like I have a completely different body these days.

I bled almost constantly for 3 mo then a LOT still until 9-10 months. I kept it 1 more year after that stopped (still hated it) and got it pulled then bled so much i thought i was actually dying for about a week and a half. I think my body hated mirena.

I bled for six months. And then had it taken out. My OB wanted me to give it a chance for that long and I just couldn't deal anymore. I used hormonal birth control until we were ready to try for #2. Two was our limit and I had a tubal ligation as part of my repeat c-section.

I have heard of cases where people bleed for a long time after insertion. I personally had spotting for about 3 months and then I stopped having my period completely. I recently had it removed and immediately had my period.

I had a week or two of very very heavy bleeding then some spotting, but certainly not six months. Maybe a month total post-removal?

I've had Mirena twice. The first time I had spotting for a couple months after and then literally no periods for four years.
With this one, I had it inserted during my c-section and bled (lightly) for four months.
For me it's worth it to not have another oops baby, to not have to worry at all about BC, and never having to deal with a period.
I can't take hormonal birth control, condoms gross me out, I don't like P&P, rhythm clearly didn't work for us...so IUD for me until DH gets snipped.

I think I had regular spotting for about 4 months. It went a lot longer than I expected though I had heard it was still "normal". Now I've had it almost nine months and I'll get like one day of light bleeding or heavy spotting which I guess is a period? I'm stillbreastfeeding too and didn't get my period back until I stopped last night.

The spotting was really annoying, but just seemed less annoying than any of my other options- pill, no thanks. Condoms? Bleh. Pull and pray? Meh. So I deal with it. We are not open to a third right now.

I think it can be up to that long. Mine lasted I think around 5 weeks. Super light periods after that though, so it's a give and take.

I have had two: one before LO and one after. I don't remember any spotting the first time around. But I did have a couple months of spotting with the one I got postpartum. I stuck it out because I knew I had liked Mirena in the past.

ETA My doc said some spotting would be normal but never said to expect six months of bleeding!

I went in to have my mirena removed because it had some yucky side effects for me, including (but not limited to) bleeding for over two months. I switched doctors and this was the first time I saw this doctor (except a consult when I was pregnant with lo2) and she said that's normal and it takes six months to stop. I've heard it can happen but the way it sounded it was expected.

We're open to a 3rd (but not ready for one quite yet..mostly the pregnancy part) so that weighed into the decision to just forget about the mirena as well. But how can six months of bleeding be expected and people go for this???
