I also tend to give employees the benefit of the doubt. In situations like that, sometimes I let it go (because those jobs truly suck and I feel bad for those people) but if she actually insulted me or did it more than once I would ask to speak to her manager. When we first moved in I threw something away in there and the people living in the apartments behind me came out of their apartment and yelled at me in the nastiest meanest cruelest way possible and told me I was "stealing their utilities," in the cruelest way possible and then my new car got keyed! I had no idea people could be so crazy over trash. I don't think calling you out was not the best customer service. Complaining to the customer does not help anything. Not appropriate on her end. I do throw out trash while I'm at a drive through but it's not a ton of trash. I like my car clean of food (fast food bags) so I make sure to take any trash from my car when I go into my house. DH is the opposite. He will leave trash in my car and his car will have a few bags of trash in his back seat. Gross! I used to work at a fast food place with a drive through and I didn't mind when customers handed me a bag of trash to throw out, but it was kinda awkward to throw out bags of trash. We graciously accepted and threw out the trash. We did make sure to wash our hands after handling trash. I do think that it is different when trash cans are out in the parking lot and you have to get out of your car to throw out trash. That's what the trash cans are for.
