@blackbird: I think these are the ones that have helped the most! I do them with the band around my knees for 5 minutes. It's harder than it looks haha.http://physicaltherapy.about.com/od/strengtheningexercises/ss/Advanced-Hip-Strength-Exercises_5.htm

I had pain like that and it was my sacroilliac joint. I basically just suffered with it the last 7 weeks of pregnancy.

@blackbird: yeah that kinda sounds like it too. The pt had me do strengthening exercises that worked my stabilizing muscles. He said that the muscles fatigue differently as your pelvis changes, so different muscles are needed to stabilize your body. As i got stronger the pain lessened. I also learned that i do better if i do the exercises first thing in the morning to trigger the muscles to start working. I mostly do wall squats and resistance band exercises for my legs.

@Adira: mine did! We have a 90/10 plan, so ours was covered 90% after my deductible was met. We have pretty good insurance right now, so it really wasnt that expensive, and for me to be able to move again it was worth the investment to me. After my deductible i paid about $10 per visit and went twice a week for 2 months. I probably could have gotten away with once a week if i had been really consistent about doing the exercises at home, but since it was pretty inexpensive and the massage part helped so much i went twice. (Also, my pt office has free childcare, so it was pretty easy to schedule appointments)

@Mrs. Lion: You know, i have this now more towards my spine and I'm going to ask my chiro about it thursday....he calls it the "gutter of the lower back" but it's a muscular issue i've had on and off issues with since E's pregnancy. He fixes it by doing something to the muscle. At its worst, i limp around the house. And then it gets better overnight and gets worse the next day. I see someone who practices Active Release Therapy @Adira:

I had similar pain and it wasnt sciatic...I was told sciatic will radiate down your leg but mine was a sharp pain in my butt cheek/hip. I went to pt for 2 months and was just discharged, as we were able to work through it and I can manage it now by doing exercises at home. I would definitely recommend pt. It helped me so much. I was pretty much a cripple at the end of the day and now I hardly ever have pain.

@Adira: I hear ya! I stopped taking public transportation to work the last few weeks because walking sucked. And we live in a very vertical townhouse and steps were the worst. I would come home and not move until bedtime. My OB said it sounded like sciatic nerve at the time but based on others' responses, I wonder if it was actually SI joint.

@Adira: Yeah if it isn't going down into your actual butt and leg it's likely SI joint pain. I think that can cause sciatic pain too though. Anywho... it sucks. Sorry. Try looking up stretches you can do for it. Also, it really helped to lay on my side and put a pillow between my knees at night.

@abmamma: Yes! Walking definitely aggravates it! Lying on my right size seems to help, so I can sleep okay, but during the day, I'm in pain!!

@travellingbee: @Synchronicity: Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was too high to actually be the sciatic nerve or not! It's too low to be lower back, but it's basically right above my left butt cheek. I haven't experienced any pain shooting through my leg, so I wasn't sure!

@travellingbee: I agree, it sounds like an SI joint issue to me. Sciatic nerve pain usually travels a bit down the leg. It's hard to say though; pain is so subjective and everyone experiences things a little differently.

Above your butt in the back of your hip almost? I think that is the SI joint. I got that when I was pregnant sooooo badly. By the end I was just miserable with it. I went to a chiro for it and it helped short term. Usually sciatic goes down through your butt cheek into your leg. I've had that too.

Sounds like it to me! I had it for the last 2-3 weeks of my pregnancy and it was pretty much exactly as you describe (from what I can remember-- it was 2+ years ago). I kept hoping DD would change positions but she did not and so I did not get any relief until she was born. It was rough but I was thankful it was only the last few weeks. The ocassional tylenol and a heating pad would help some. A friend of mine had it in her second pregnancy a month or two before her due date and I think her OB gave her something so you might ask if it does not go away.

ETA: mine was pretty much constant, especially when walking

That's kind of how mine felt. I would get a shooting quick pain on one side down my leg starting near my butt. It felt like my leg got weak and was about to give out. It came and went during pregnancy. Sometimes it would also feel like I had to stretch my leg out.

So I think I might be experiencing sciatic nerve pain, though I'm not entirely sure, since I've never experienced it before. It's this shooting pain/soreness that I feel basically above my left butt cheek. I have no pain on my right side. Anyone else experience this? Is this sciatic nerve pain?
