It gets easier AFTER the 3-4 months age. It is hard, but take heart. Like everyone has said, as your baby grows, so will you and in turn things will be easier. HUGS.

My mom always told me that it gets easier each month, starting at 3 months. And she was soooooo right! LO is 9 months now and life is so good. As long as she gets her naps in :)

It gets easier because you will become more in tune with your child and improve your own parenting skills. However, the toddler stage is pretty difficult, too, albeit in a different way. Now my daughter can fight every single thing I want her to do on certain days so that can be very trying.

@irene: Here's a little bit on sleep regressions!

Is your LO hitting milestones? Right around 4 months, Charlie started rolling over and he had so much fun with it that he had trouble sleeping.

I totally agree with Red. The first year was a complete fog and I was just so frazzled I didn't deal with anything well. Now, I look back and wonder what I was so worried about because it's totally different now with the mobility and personality issues.

I voted yes...but it's actually a yes and no. It gets worse before it gets better. The first year seemed to be a constant struggle to keep afloat because once you think you've got a routine down, they hit a milestone and everything is turned upside down. After my LO turned one, I was able to juggle things a lot better so that when I thought back to those first few months, I realized that those were actually the easy days 'cause she wasn't mobile then. It just seemed more difficult 'cause I was inexperienced.

Like Mrs Bee says, everything is phase. Just go with the flow and don't try to be supermom.

i know it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you're still trying to figure it all out, but i promise it gets easier and easier. just keep this mantra in mind that all my mom friends reminded me of when i was stressed out -- this too shall pass. *everything* is a phase.

you're doing great! :)

@mrstilly: Holy crap... what is 4 month sleep regression??? Yikes!

Our nanny is starting tomorrow (tuesday) and thursday, and officially starts 4 days a week next week. I can't imagine hitting a "sleep regression" after I started working again......

Thanks --- I think you are right, I'll miss him as a baby too....

Take a deep breath. It sounds like your LO had settled into a routine, and now is hitting a bump in the road. It could be he is hitting the 4 month sleep regression a bit early. I know right now you feel like pulling your hair out because everything was great and now it's not, but things will get better again! This is a phase and you will get sleep again, shower, and go out in public.

When I was on maternity leave with DS (my 1st child) I would go out even if he was fussy. If he was going to fuss either way, I'd rather be outside and getting some fresh air. A park is a great place, because even if he is fussy, he won't really disturb anyone.

Also, remember that you are definitely not alone. You aren't the first person's who has a fussy baby out in public and it is not a big deal. Don't let it stress you out. Babies cry, other people will get over it. If getting out helps you feel better, try to keep doing that. It was what kept me sane during the long days home alone with DS. I nursed everywhere (middle of the mall, changing rooms, park bench, the car, restaurants, etc...) and it was a huge relief to be out of the house.

Also, feel free to ignore this if you want, but you will miss these days! DS is 1 now and I really miss the early days with him when he was so little (and immobile!). Although back then when I was frustrated I didn't want to hear it.

*Hugs*

I am frustrated. Is this going to get harder and harder???

My LO is almost 3 months old. It was hell going through the NB stage, but after that I thought we were back to normal (ie. I have time to take a shower, brush my teeth, and even sitting in front of the computer when he naps). He sleeps through the night (7pm-ish to 6am-ish) since he was 1-2 months old, getting up only once for the past weeks, and for a few nights he even skipped the feeding altogether. He was also the breastfeeding champ and there had been no issues since the first NB hurdle (we saw a lactation consultant immediately back then).

However, now he fusses in the late afternoon hours when we go out so basically we can't really go out anymore. He also fuss when we put him down for the night - tonight he passed out for half and hour and wakes and cries on and off for 2+ hours! Then for the previous 2 nights he got up at odd hours and last night he got up twice to feed. Then on breastfeeding he gets distracted and he eats 2 oz per feed, driving me insane. We used to go to the park on the weekends and feed there but with his erratic feeding behavior now I just lost my confidence in feeding in public. I am not even thinking about teething yet. Sigh.

Is this going to get more difficult? I hope I am not getting a child that is like those crazy ones in Super Nanny.... :-( What else is down the road that I should watch out for? :-(
