My LO has been drooling like a mad woman since 2 1/2 months...She'll be 6 months on the 26th and no teeth yet, so it might not be teething (though she'll chew on my finger like its a filet mingon!) She also went through a really fussy/irritable time between 10-16 weeks (but it felt like a lot longer) and I honestly think it was a combination of growth spurt plus becoming more aware plus nap issues (but I think the nap issues were a result of becoming more aware and cognizant of her surroundings).
ETA: and regarding the drool, I read (somewhere) that the increase in saliva production is natural and is to get the baby ready for solid food.
So, while I don't have any advice (other than to just hang in there) just know that we relate and it gets better!!

@FutureMrsMcK: Yeah she's been drooling for a while. Probably since right after her two month appointment. I feel like everyone thinks I'm lying when I say I think she's teething and it's just taking a while but I feel like she could fill a bathtub with drool some days.

DS is going through the same thing, but his pedi said she couldn't feel any teeth yet and he's only 10 weeks old. The drool is ridiculous, and has been for about 2 weeks now.

I thought I'd update that she's been a bit better today. My mom and brother stopped by so I made an effort to have her play after her first nap (that she's skipped since last week and randomly started again today). It took a while to get her down for her first nap but she woke up refreshed and played for a good hour. Then she ate a bit (15-20 minutes), played for a little longer, and ate again for about 5-10 minutes. Now she's on her second nap.

I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch but maybe we're coming out of the growth spurt now and she wont' be as cranky because she's sleeping more.

We have the Babies R Us brand of infant Tylenol that someone gave us. When she had her two month appointment, my husband was sick so I asked what I could give her. He said if she had symptoms but no fever to give her Tylenol but to bring her in for any fever under three months. I'm not even giving her a full dose, just enough to help her fall asleep really. And we have the Equate gas relief drops. She's also been needing a decent amount of gripe water at times.

She's been squirming for a few weeks now in her pack n play. We use a Woombie though so she can't get out of it. I just hate seeing her look this pitiful all the time. She won't even sleep in the swing like she was before (although a couple of weeks ago she randomly took a three hour nap in the swing).

She just all of a sudden is happy and then immediately switches back to angry. I'm hoping this doesn't last long and that we come out on the other side with fewer feedings and a better schedule. That would make this more worth it.

OMG, little C is going through the exact same thing! We haven't gotten any gas drops or infant Tylenol yet, but I'm thinking i should pick some up now...

@mandb36: oh and Wagon Jr. cut his first teeth at 3.5 months so I definitely think it could be teething!

@mandb36: LMW was 3 months old yesterday...!!! And you are describing her almost to a T. Fussing at feedings (we've reduced the size of her bottles from 5 oz to 4 because she just doesn't finish them), drooling, sleep issues. The only way we can get her to sleep for more than an hour during the day is in the swing-- and then she'll sleep for MORE THAN FOUR HOURS. what the heck! She's had plenty of dirty diapers but she has had a lot more gas than usual, and a lot more trouble burping it out.

What pain relief are you giving her? infant tylenol? I can't even remember what is safe at this age... but I really want to give LMW something at night because she really struggles. After she's down for the night, she doesn't cry until her feeding time, but she squirms and looks so miserable. She's actually squirmed right out of her swaddle and down to the other side of the crib!

So for the past week my LO has been eating a ton more. She's also been drooling like a faucet has been turned on. The past few days though she has been super fussy. She acts hungry and then when I try to nurse her she cries and she's only eating from one side unless she's half asleep. I'll probably try a bottle in a bit to see if that works better if it continues.

She's just in general super cranky and has been fighting sleep/not sleeping a lot. She's also only had one dirty diaper since Sunday but tons of gas. This maybe TMI but the one she had was a little thicker, a little darker, and smelled a lot worse.

I can get her to calm down though and keep her happy for a few minutes at a time. She also responds a bit to cold teething rings and Sophie. Also, a small amount of pain reliever and gas drops help her sleep at night.

Could this be the growth spurt and teething at the same time? She's three months old today.
