I'd do the night stuff until I was falling apart, then he'd do a full night, get up to go to work at 4, and be unable to do anything the following night because he was so tired... We just kept going back and forth! </p> <p>I did look into post partum doulas, but there's no way we could afford that! DH suggested we look into putting the baby in daycare early to get me a break, but that would have been way to expensive too. They have no part time option. </p> <p>I ended up making it work and pushing through with a few scheduled visits. I tried to have someone come by at least once a week. I also have high sleep needs. I had PPD/PPA with my first and the sleep deprivation almost destroyed me. My husband finally convinced me to get night time help a few nights a week and it was life changing. I don’t have family nearby either and he also had only a week off but we spent 5 days in the hospital so we got home on a Friday and he went back to work Monday! So this time we did the same thing but 24 hour because I didn’t want to take a newborn to my sons preschool every day during flu season. She still went home weekends and we phased her out to part time then totally on our own. But both times having some help at night has seriously saved my sanity, my life, my marriage.<br /> No one can ever prepare you for how hard it is to have a newborn! Especially if you have high sleep needs yourself. I’m amazed by women who can do it on their own and just say “oh I’m so tired”. It's a lot more enjoyable to spend time with him when other people are here to help out (my mom or sister) or when he spends some time at daycare. </p> <p>Not ashamed to say I called my mom back three times so far! (and she's coming memorial day weekend so we can go to a wedding without the baby)</p> <p>It really does take a village! Sorry for ghosting on you, but 1. having a newborn is really freaking overwhelming, and 2. I tend to mostly come to the board from a computer and I'm just starting to work from home. </p> <p>But want to meet the cutest little boy ever?</p> <p>He was born via planned C section a week early. He was frank breech for pretty much the whole second half of my pregnancy. </p> <p>Other than a bad reaction to the anesthesia drugs that made me really sick for the first day, the birth was pretty uneventful. My incision is even "beautiful" (according to my sister who had 4 C sections). </p> <p>We took my OB's advice and stayed in the hospital three nights to take advantage of the nurses there helping and the nursery at night. </p> <p>Getting home was overwhelming. My DH only had a week off and we spent most of that in the hospital. My mom came the following week, but had to leave early because she got a cold. DH is gone 12-14 hours a day for work, so those were some LONG days! </p> <p>The baby's been in daycare since last week while I start working from home and trying to get us on a schedule that will work for me going back to work.</p> <p>He's mostly a really happy baby, and I love how he's staring to "talk" and "tell stories".
