Shards of glass is a good description. I had a lot of itchiness too.

I agree with MrsBells that it doesn't always have to spread to the baby. The best thing that helped me was wiping my breast down with vinegar to kill the yeast and add vinegar to wash my bras.

Is it just the nipple that is sore or the entire right breast? If it is just the nipple it could be thrush. Even if the baby doesnt exhibit any signs of having thrush, sometimes you can have it without passing it on to the baby. I would definitely see the doctor though.

I never had thrush, but in my BF support group someone said it felt like shards of glass or shooting pains. You are supposed to see thrush in the baby's cheeks, but it is common for the tongue to be white and a white tongue does not mean there is thrush. I think it's possible for you to get it without your baby having it.

I would definitely call your doctor or see a lactation consultant. I hope you get some relief from the pain soon, whatever is causing it!

My LO is almost 4 weeks. Breastfeeding was initially painful with cracked nipples and all, but the past week or so has been ok. Until the past few days, my right nipple is SO sore and painful. It almost feels like needles are jabbing into it at times. I can hardly bear the thought of her latching on that side, so I've been feeding off the other side and pumping the right side, which still kinda hurts. I've been reading up on thrush, and I dont really have any other symptoms. LO has a white tongue, but it's always been white. There are no other bumps in her mouth.

For those of you that have had thrush, what did it feel/look like on you? Think I should call my doctor?
