@zippylef: I'd call it a welcome home/ meet C party. But really do you need an excuse to throw a party? :)

I think I might just call it a "Welcome Home" party or something. Although my military friends told me to just call it a birthday! haha.

Thanks, ladies! I wanted to hear the "civilian" perspective!

I think August is a lil late to call it a 'birthday' party. Like MaisyMay said, I'd call it something else.

@zippylef: in that case what about just calling it a "Meet & Greet" like @MaisyMay: suggested. Or a Sip N See. :)

I'd totally call it a birthday party! She only turns 1 once, and it's a big deal. I think your family and friends would be excited to be able to participate in her first birthday!

@regberadaisy: I was sort of thinking about that too, not calling it a "birthday" party.

Most of our friends have never met her and most of our family have only seen her once/twice, so I want everyone to be able to meet her and hang out with us when we get back.

Does it have to be coined a "birthday" party? You can still all get together and celebrate her w/o being a birthday party?

But if you were to do that I would still come!

Not at all, it's her first birthday, she will never know the difference! And you want to celebrate with family so I think go for it! Get those pictures and memories with your family!

C's birthday is April 3rd. DH was supposed to be deployed like 2 weeks after her birthday and then we were going to fly home. My mom and I were planning to throw her a family 1st birthday in May, so that our families and friends back home could celebrate with us.

DH and C and I are all all leaving in July now, instead (thanks USAF!). Would it be weird to throw her a small birthday party at the beginning of August? I just really wanted to be able to celebrate with our families back home.

I was thinking something small. Rent a park pavilion, BBQ, cake, etc. I'm definitely not expecting anyone to bring a gift. Is it too long after her birthday to have a small party/get-together? If you were a close friend or family member (who knew the situation. We're overseas, plans changed, etc), would you think it was weird?
