@jmarionsmith: i put my LO in a 2s class this past September. The cut off is August 31st and my LO wasn't 2 until November. I called and emailed the school director and she was ok with my LO starting early. There is one other girl that was allowed to start despite the cut off - both my LO and the other little girl are not physically tiny so they blend in with the other 2 year olds, they are very verbal and they love circle time. So if your school has a summer program it is possible they will let your child in early if there is room. It probably took my LO about 3 weeks before she was excited to go to school and now she loves it.

What if you found a summer camp to put him in first? That way you can make a big deal about how "big boys go to school and camp" and "isn't he so lucky" etc. So, when school starts he has this sense of pride because he is a big boy, and being away from you isn't a new concept.

I would go for it, if that is what you would do without the new baby. Regardless of preschool, your #1 is going to go through a transition and that age is tough, especially for boys! You will need a break with the baby too. He will love the interaction and it's just a few hours a week so it's not like you are suddenly sending him to daycare for 50 hours!

@Greentea: @mamimami: unfortunately starting him before isn't an option because the preschool we are looking at only accepts 2 year olds and up.

But I'm definitely thinking of holding off for 6 months, I just have to call and see if that is a possibility. Registration starts in a couple of weeks, which is why I'm freaking out!

Thank you both for the advice! :)

I think that is a lot honestly. Is there any way to separate these? I agree with mamimami.

I think it's legit. I would either put the older child in school significantly before or significantly after the other one is born.

LO #1 turns 2 August 31, which also happens to be my due date for LO #2.

We were planning to start LO#1 in preschool when he turned 2, which begins the first week of September. We are only going to send him for 2 half days a week, but I am a SAHM so LO is with me 99% of the time, which means preschool will be a completely new experience for him.

I am just super concerned that getting a baby sibling at the exact time he will be starting preschool is going to be too much on him. I don't want to to turn his entire world upside down. Am I over-thinking this or is it a legit worry?
