@swedishfish: Yeah I get about 9 days off so I figured that's when we'd wean as well. She won't be six months til Jan 4 buut I'll cut myself some slack :p It's soo frustrating though, isn't it? I hate getting a measly ounce or two from a pump session :(

Thanks, all. I'm fairly certain the dip isn't temporary as my output has been declining for a while. I always got more during my breakfast pump but now it's evened out. I don't think I could go from 7 AM to 5/5:30 PM without a pump though?

@DillonLion: so close to your goal!!! Congrats!

@Pepper: our babies are getting so big!

@Bookish: we can make it to six months! I figured weaning R over Christmas break will be easier anyway because I have two weeks off.

I think that you've done an amazing job, already. And since your daughter is nursing, she's getting breastmilk. I'd personally drop the pumping guilt free whenever you feel like it. If you're already supplementing with formula, why kill yourself for a little more breastmilk?

Do you get substantially more at one of the pumping sessions? I recently cut out a pumping session because it was too much with work and it didn't change my output at all! It has made the last month much easier!

i would think that if you want to keep BFing, you'll need to keep pumping to keep that supply. it's not horrible output and still provides some great BM for LO. it's only 1.5 months away! (feels like forever, i'm sure, but in the grand scheme of things, not that far to make your goal!)

i'd stick it out for another few days and see if the dip in supply is temporary. if it continues to decline, i'd quit. if it picks back up, then maybe stick with it. but if its causing any stress and making you upset, then i'd quit! pumping is such a PITA.

I'm having the same dilemma. Despite fenugreek, tea, and water, I'm now down to 5-7 oz a day :( Like you, my goal is 6 months, and I'm pretty bummed that I don't think I'll make it there. I'm still nursing G to sleep at night, so I'm debating dropping my pump sessions and just nursing in the morning & evening, but I'm afraid my supply won't survive it.

I wish I had advice, just wanted to say I'm in the same crappy boat :/

If your supply is dropping, it could mean that your cycle is starting, and you'll be expecting AF, soon. If that's the case, I'd keep pumping, because it'll go back up. (if you want to and the output is your only real concern).

BUT, if you really want to stop, that would be totally ok. You need to do what makes things good for you, and if it'll make your life easier and less stressful to stop pumping, by all means, stop.

I would quit. Pumping is a pain in the arse. Why stress about it? Just nurse when twice a day. She is still getting BM a day.

I am 4 days away from my goal and i produce 2 oz a day (TOTAL). But i really want to make my goal so i am sticking it out and pumping drops per session. It is up to you what you want to do, but if you decide to continue and want to commiserate, I am here.

I'd keep pumping. I get 3-4 ounces per pump each time but I guess you must have been accustomed to getting more. :)

I think I'd still pump to keep a little supply until Christmas. I have serious supply issues, and I'm only able to pump enough for one bottle a day (if that). We don't really BF anymore because of his weight gain issues (I need to see what he's getting). I would just worry that if you quit pumping, you wouldn't have as much for your nursing sessions?

Can you believe they're going to be 6 months in a matter of weeks?! Crazy.

I had a similar plan as you except I was at home all day every day with LO and my supply kept declining. We battled bf-ing by about 4 months so I decided to pump and pump to try and keep going with the bfing. I stopped bfing at 5 months and stopped pumping at 6 months. Oh and we started supplementing at 4 months. Quite honestly, if and when I have to do it again, I would have stopped breastfeeding right at 4 months and just pumped and supplemented. I liked the idea of LO still getting some of my milk, but the fighting at the boob was ruining our bond. So I guess I would tough it out for your goal as long as you it's not ruining any relationship with your LO. It is very discouraging though. The day I packed away the pump was a really really REALLY great day lol

I'm a WOHM teacher and I pump twice a day...once while eating breakfast at home and once during my lunch period. My pumped supply has made a slow and steady decline even while drinking enough water to fill the Atlantic Ocean and taking MMP supplements.

I've only gotten 7 oz. during the past few days during the two pump sessions. My plan was to pump/BF until R was 6 months old on a Christmas Day (no judgment, please - I'm impressed I made it through the first 2.5 months of the school year). I'm trying to tell myself that it's worth it to go a month and a half longer but it's discouraging to pump so little.

I BF R twice a day on weekdays and four times a day on weekends. We have been supplementing with formula on a regular basis since September. What would you do?
