Which makes sense to me, as the happiest families I know all spend a <i>lot</i> of time together. But the visits to my moms parents are on the list with Christmases. We would drive 14 hours to see them in a station wagon and I thought their rural home was just magical. Even the drive I have fond memories of now although I'm not sure my mom would! My parents made it a priority to take us on vacations and weekend getaways. It allowed us all to get out of our routines, spend time together, and explore new places together. My parents are also very outdoorsy and wanted to share their love of hiking, swimming, and skiing with their kids. </p> <p>I have some wonderful memories of playing cards, looking at the stars, sitting around a campfire, and going on walks, all on vacation. I also think that all of that family bonding plays a part in how close my parents and brothers are I are now.
