It's not the best. We try to be as energy efficient in our home as possible.

- Use all energy efficient light bulbs.
- Don't leave lights on in rooms we aren't using.
- Do laundry/dishwasher at non-peak hours.

I'm sure there is more but my husband is the man to talk to, I just do what he says about energy stuff. lol.

Yup, and we're making it more so. It was built to energy star standards (in 2012), tankless water heater, great windows, all efficient appliances, extra (i.e., beyond code) insulation, etc.

We will be adding solar panels which will offset 60% of our electricity, and we're going to get off fossil fuels for heating (use propane currently).

It's pretty efficient. It's rated a 'Good Cents' house by the city, which means it meets certain extra energy efficient standards, but we don't have all energy star appliances, and we haven't managed to replace all of our light bulbs yet, so there is room for improvement.

We could be far better. We have energy star appliances like our washer, dishwasher and fridge, but we need new windows badly! We also will need a new HVAC unit eventually. It's the original unit when the house was built 22 years ago! We do have a programmable thermostat, so that helps, but we can definitely have much better windows!!

Some parts. We have new energy efficient A/C, or toilets don't use as much as water, we have solar panels to heat our pool.

My new house is super energy efficient. Our current house, not at all. It does have a new furnace but it's an old house so there are quite a few areas for heat to escape.

Not really, but it's not as bad as it could be. We will need to replace the roof in the next three years, but the appliances we've bought are Energy Star rated and our furnace/ac/water heater are newer (2004+). We will replace the windows eventually, and when we can upgrade the bathrooms we plan on installing duo flush or low-flow toilets.

Yes and no - we have a new furnace and new, energy efficient appliances in the kitchen (plus cfl bulbs, etc.), which all helps but the windows are terrible and we have little-to-no insulation (it's an oooold house). Hopefully will be replacing windows/siding/insulation within the year though. Even with the leaks I'm sure we have everywhere, our heating/cooling bills are never really *that* bad.

It isn't the best. We have single paned windows too. We plan to update them one day. Our appliances are all newer and energy efficient. We also switched the lightbulbs.

Not at all.....we live in a small carriage house built in the 70s, and everything is original...appliances and all. We also have single pane windows. I feel like our energy bill is always outrageous since our appliances are such a huge energy suck. They are also all olive green, ha! It is just a rental so we can't change a whole lot, but we do try to turn the freezer/fridge settings to low, and if we leave for more than a day we will unplug everything save the fridge so that we can save a little.

Nope! We bought an older home so everything is "original". Like you, we did swap out the light bulbs for energy efficient ones. We recently got our roof repaired so that's somewhat energy efficient due to the vents. We'll eventually replace the single pane windows.

Yes our new home will be a net zero house. We got solar panels,
the house will produce more power than we will need. We also have tankless water heater, windows, and appliances that are energy efficient.

yep.. but we built a new house so it is an "Energy Star" house (a rating system in Canada.. not sure if it's in the US). We also got all Energy Star rated appliances!

We live in an older home, so it's probably not as energy efficient as some homes. We just put in a new dishwasher, changed out a lot of the light bulbs to more efficient ones, set our thermostat to only run 3 times an hour instead of 5. Eventually we will put in new windows, since these are the original, and they are only single pane. We will need a new water heater/furnace in the next 5 years or so, but the ones we have now are not the originals, so that's good ;)

Is your home pretty energy efficient?
