@Freckles: nope! since he's been asking for a light when we tuck him in, it seems more of a security thing for now. The one we have is rechargeable so eventually it goes out after he falls asleep. If anything, the sunlight or noise from outside wakes him up.

@Freckles: so far, not at all but that was my fear! It's not super bright or anything, we have a Conair white noise machine with a blue faced clock that we have always kept covered--I uncovered the light and pointed it away from her bed so she can just barely see the whole room. It's still dimmer than a daytime nap w/curtains closed.

@tororojo: @enjollah: Do the nightlights interfere with their sleep at all (i.e., waking up early)?

LO is 30 months old and since he started daycare a month ago, he would tell us at night it was "dark" and wanted us to turn on a light. I think the combination of understanding the concept of light and dark along with talking more is what causes his behavior of being afraid of the dark….also that he learned the idea of "monsters" from daycare too! We turn on a rechargeable night light for him. If it goes off and he is still awake, he bursts into our room yelling, "light! light!"

Possibly. Mine is just 18 months but has pretty much always gone to sleep in a pitch black room like a champ. This week she refused to sleep on multiple nights- one she spent talking to herself for over an hour, the next she spent talking and then crying for awhile so I went in, gave her a nightlight, put her back down and she's back to sleeping great now with the light added.

LO is 29 months old and recently has been showing signs that she's afraid of the dark. She makes me turn on all the lights before she'll go into a room, and freaked out one night when the power went out. She's okay with going to sleep with the door closed as long as the light in the hallway is on.

Is your LO afraid? What have you done to address it?
