@lamariniere: same here. The only baby-proofing item we have in our house is outlet covers and we don't even really need them.

He is super good about holding our hands in busy places and he looks for us before going up a playground structure and going down slides. He does need a lot of coaxing and demonstration to try new things...but eventually he warms up. Strangers get the stink eye unless you're a bus driver or fireman.

We live behind a school and he will climb up the hill to get to the field but he won't go any further unless he knows we are watching (he will look and call out for us). Once I give him the go ahead he runs to the playground!

Completely fearless. She plunges head first off things. She reaches out to be picked up by random strangers (did it yesterday!). She's always climbing, exploring, and getting into things.

He is usually cautious unless excited. If he gets really excited he doesn't pay attention to his limits and crosses them!

For example, normally he is very cautious at any stairs. He will look down them, consider his plan of attack, then usually try one hand, then try to turn around, etc. but if he sees me at the end of the hall, he will just try to go all in, hands down steps.

I think C is sort of in the middle, but fairy cautious. She doesn't have stranger anxiety (yet), but she takes a few minutes to warm up. Like, she will look intently at the new person for several minutes, then bust out the smiles if they meet her approval (they usually do). Physically, she actually didn't really start pulling up to stand until she could also sit herself back down-- which saved me a lot of tears, I'm sure.

The caution does not extend to the changing table, unfortunately. She would happily launch herself right off if I am not right there.

Chloe is fearless. She has no concept of danger. Yesterday she climbed up a ladder to get to the slide at my uncles house, and wanted to climb across the monkey bars. My husband helped her & she screamed for him to let go. Uh, no.

Cute! My LO is fearless around people. She shouts "Hi!" at anybody she sees. Especially when we're out on walks, she shouts at people all the way down the block. People are always shocked when they see it was "the baby" that said hi.

Physically she's pretty cautious. She's just starting to walk now at 15 months. It took her a while to go through her tunnel. She is not into water at all.

My LO is pretty cautious. Although she also does the just-letting-go-while-standing thing. And she's always trying to crawl off the bed. I think that's because she doesn't understand gravity yet, not because she's fearless because she's *very* cautious the rest of the time.

Fearless (although definitely cautious around strangers). His favorite new thing is climbing onto the count and then just walking straight off!!!!! We USUALLY catch him, but he's wiped out a couple times already, haha. It doesn't stop him from doing it though!

Crazy fearless. But it seems that once she has a bad experience, she avoids it - thank goodness!

Case in point: there's a big-kid slide at our local playground. It's built on a little hill, so smaller kids can easily climb the grassy stairs before actually climbing the stairs onto the slide. But the slide itself goes all the way down the hill. DD fearlessly slid down the slide in the rain, with her raincoat on. She FLEW ... and loved it! And insisted in doing it again!

She got up on her own, walked around and climbed the hill as I waited at the slide. She did this over and over until she handed hard on her butt. She now refuses to slide. She'll walk all the way up, but then decides to go back down. DH and I are delighted to see that she has at least some natural instinct of self-preservation!!!

Fearless is most situations but cautious when we first meet new people. He's the kind of kid that will jump off of anything and get right back up if he gets hurt, without ever complaining. He had 11 stitches a few weeks ago and was literally running around in the emergency department! Ugh.

So this morning, I dropped E off at my inlaws and there, in the middle of the living room, was a crawl tunnel my FIL had bought for her over the weekend. My MIL was convinced that E would be too scared to go inside but we waited to see what she made of it. Well, E regarded it for a while, pulled at the edges, and then crawled right into it!!

It's further proof that E is completely fearless. She has zero stranger anxiety (eek). She doesn't understand that she needs to hold on when she pulls up - she just turns around and falls over! She's not scared of anything! I have a feeling that this is going to be a nightmare when she's walking - no common sense, like mummy!!

My friend's little lad, however, has always been really cautious. It took him ages to let go of the furniture when he started cruising (sensible boy!) and at 18 months he is terrified of enclosed spaces; he even hates the baby change rooms in restaurants. It's funny how children can be so different!

Is your LO cautious or fearless?
