I had a really fussy baby too. I always felt like a bad mom when I was around my friend's babies and they were perfectly behaved. She did get better when she could crawl around though, so maybe that will be the case with your baby too :)

My LO was really fussy and when I was bringing this up to the pediatrician she figured out she has reflux. Since we started her on the "baby Zantac" she has been such a good baby! The older she gets the less fussy she is, but even when she does fuss it only takes a minute or two to find something to soothe her.

I used to joke that we should have named her Gussy because I would always call her fussy Gussy. That and I have a thing for old people names :)

We discovered reflux, and have since started medication and are trying to keep her off her back. She's been a much happier baby since then.

Aw, hang in there! I find solace in knowing it will eventually get better. My baby is 11 weeks and she seems to be on the fuzzier side. Although I don't have much to compare her to, she may just be a typical baby. She rarely allows us to run errands without a freak out in public. I can never predict if she's going to cry the entire time in the car or if she'll just fall asleep. And at home she insists (and by insist I mean she cries until it happens) that I nurse her all day long. I go back to work next week so she's not gonna react well to the change in her routine :(

I really believe some babies are just high strung. I realized my son is a mover, so he's got to be allowed to climb, crawl, etc, otherwise he gets really annoying and starts to whine, which when ignored turns into full on crying.

My LO wasn't overly fussy when she was younger but I did notice that my diet had a lot to do with the times when she was really fussy. I kept a log (on the baby app on my phone) of everything I was eating and referred to it when she seemed to be really fussy and started to see a pattern. Since then, we've realized that she is allergic to egg, dairy, soy, and chocolate (crossing my fingers that she outgrows it soon). Caffeine also wired her up and prevented her from sleeping.

Might be worth looking into.

My LO is super chill and mellow. She didn't cry much as a newborn and into the first few months of her life. Once her teeth sprouted at 5 months she's become pretty whiney and "fussy". But she's still not a big crier.

I have the poster child for fussiness! Even professionals are amazed at how fussy she is!
She is now 19 months old and still really fussy and difficult.
She had colic the first five months of her life (usually colic ends at around 3 months). On top of that she was and still is lactose intolerant so the first month we tried many different formulas until we settled with Similac Alimentum. Changing to Alimentum definitely helped, a lot! Then at 3 months we learned that she had GER (Gastroesophageal Reflux) which is just infant reflux so she was put on medication for that.

If it's colic Mylicon in conjunction with Gripe Water (or independently) worked sometimes.
Baby Bjorn'ing, the swing (motion), and extremely loud white noise (vacuum or the hair dryer at high setting) also helped a lot.

Do you think it's gas? Does she spit up a lot? How are her stools?

My daughter just stopped taking Zantac for her reflux a few weeks ago. She is still a very fussy child but I read that babies who had colic usually are fussier than most other kids even after they outgrow their colic stage. Sigh.
Hang in there! You are not alone!

so far olive doesn't seem fussy, but she's only a month old. charlie was definitely needier than she was. every baby is different... i'm sure you're not making your baby fussier. :)

@Andrea: I spent about 10 minutes today somehow blaming myself for her fussiness. I *know* that I didn't "make" her fussy but I couldn't help but to think I was responsible. But I'm over it now.

My hubs always comments that our daughter became less fussy once she started solids at 6 months. I think she was always a little bit uncomfortable just drinking milk and maybe the food settled her stomach or something. However, she also started crawling at 5.5 months and I feel like she became happier at that point, too, because before that she was just bored?!?

But it's true, some babies really don't cry a lot. I think they are just born that way.

Okay, my LO is 3 months old and all this time, I assumed she was a massive crybaby just because she was a newborn and all babies cry and crying is normal for babies and crying is babies' only means of communication, etc, etc.

Boy, was I wrong. After spending time with other moms with their babies similar in age to LO, I know for sure that LO is a freakin' over-the-top fussy baby!

My name is Rubies and I have a fussy baby.

(Altogether now...) "Hi Rubies."

When do babies stop being really fussy and become, er, normal? Do YOU have a fussy baby?
