Mine loves puzzles. She initiated starting and completing at 17 mos. She's still young so it's separate pieces/slots. She does the ipad apps as well as the regular ones. Can't wait til she's ready for the big ones. She's tried some big picture ones on the ipad with limited success but the wheels are turning.

@mrbee: she's four... And really only started being interested in puzzles when she turned 3. I think 100 is a bit ambitious and her eyes started glazing over and DH finished it for her. :-) I just don't know what is between 48 and 100..

@T-Mom: 100 pieces, wow!!

We started with 12 pieces haha! He can do a 24 piecer with an insane amount of help. Haha ok, more accurate to say that I can do a 24 piece puzzle despite his "help"... ok that sounds more like it.

DD is pretty good but not great.. She gets used to solving a certain size puzzle, and when we up the piece count or get a more complicated one where the colors are more subtle it takes a while to adjust. I try to teach her techniques like finding the side pieces first, etc but she doesn't like listening to me haha. She just started 100 piece puzzles and definitely needs help.

I just got Charlie some Gruffalo puzzles and he loves them! However, it doesn't appear to come naturally... but he seems to be learning how they work!

It looks like there are a few different skill sets going on here... first one is a "big picture" ability to conceptualize the entire picture and come up with ways to start the puzzle, another is the ability to figure out how two specific pieces fit together, and another big skill needed is fine motor skills.

I'm excited to work on these puzzles together with him until he can do them without my assistance!

Is your LO good at solving jigsaw puzzles? How long did it take for them to become a puzzle master? :)
