@T.H.O.U.: We pay $140 for 8 weeks 😳 but no required costumes or ticketed recital, which every other dance studio required. So i guess it evened out.

Yes. It's at her school. Expensive at $45/month but I don't have to drive her.

Nope, although she would love it and have asked to take ballet classes. :/ Maybe next Fall; I will very hopefully have a license by then. :P

I bought my stuff from discount dance also. They had a good selection and variety which was great for me as a very casual dancer.

@Andrea: I danced my whole growing up (3 - 18) and bought all of my things at a "local dance shop". My parents weren't frivolous with spending and so I am confident I can say prices were reasonable. I know they found the store originally by asking the teacher at the dance school where she recommended. The store was staffed by dancers who worked part time at the store. So they were really helpful as I got older too and was buying pointe shoes, etc.

The dance stores have clearance sales a few times a year. Otherwise I've had good luck on Amazon. If you buy a little big, the stuff will last quite awhile since they don't wear it a lot and it's all stretchy materials. I haven't been impressed with the selection at Target either.

My LO is in ballet (and loves it!). We found Target disappointing too. We had the best luck at local dance shops, especially for shoes because they will measure their feet and all to size correctly.

I've even seen some cute stuff at H&M.
I've found Capezio on Zulily but usually get stuff at the dance studio's own store. They're always having sales. Any local dance shops near you?

As a dance teacher I buy most of my stuff from discountdance.com. I can google a coupon code and get free shipping!
Alot of my students get cute dance stuff at Target though- they seem to have a nice little section now!

my DD (3 years) took a toddler dance class last session in the fall, to get used to the teacher. she loved it and just started the "big girl" class (3-5) yesterday. first time she's ever gone by herself - anywhere! I'm a SAHM and my parents are the babysitters when needed. I was a little nervous to see what she'd do, but she rocked it! such a riot watching them all in their little dance get-ups too.

the thing I love most about this place is that it's very laid back - they learn technique but aren't made to feel like it's so strict, they're there to have fun and learn. The only "requirement" is to wear soft soled shoes. They do half tap, half ballet, but they aren't requiring tap shoes (thank god, because she'd outgrow them in a month!).

best place to buy dancewear? I've looked on Amazon, not really impressed by the one leotard that Target has. I would prefer to not spend an arm and a leg if possible, although the Capezio on Amazon are stinking cute!!
