Not shopkins, but what I have noticed is that my son will take very good care of his hot wheels cars since he has those cases that have a slot for each one of them. Maybe some kind of organizer like that would work?

My daughter (almost 3) is extremely particular about her playmobil. She has a few sets that came with tiny little pieces (like the Zoo set has postcards and juice boxes in its gift shop) and she knows if any are missing. She's very careful about playing with them, then putting them away again.

On the other hand, my son (also almost 3) is basically a Playmobil Godzilla. He just wants to step all over the scenes his sis has set up, smash the animals together, etc. so pieces going flying. It's the source of almost all their fighting right now!

She is. We bought a plastic bin for her Shopkins and she knows she has to keep them in there, clean up when she's done with them and that she can't play with them around her baby brother. She's 4 and it's been working out well.

She's pretty good if things have a place from the start. All her shopkins are in a metal small lunchbox she got as a party favor once. Legos have Tupperware. But it's easy to forget to put them away before brother gets them so I have to be paying attention too. She hates him touching her little stuff though so if I do remind her she gets right on it.

We were strict on them having "a place" from the start and it helps her covet them (lol). So yes, she has a dollar store box they live in and she's really good at keeping them in there and then hiding the box from her little bro.

Unfortunately, no. She has quite a bit of small and tiny toys and loves to play with all of them together. I put away the tiniest pieces (microscopic Sylvanian food items), but small Lego Friends pieces (tiny crowns, glasses, cherries, utensils) are just as bad. Her Shopkins plays with the Legos ... all scattered on the floor :meh: and "they're her creation" so I can't just put them away without a fuss :crying:

Haha! Um no. Not so good at it.

She's good when she takes them to someone else's house. My mother in law's dogs will chew tiny toys so she's better at picking them up there.

If your LO collects some kind of small toy....is she or he good at keeping them organized? Or are you constantly searching for/tidying up tiny bits and pieces?

I'm specifically thinking of Shopkins (they've just come onto my almost 5 year old DD's radar - a girl in her class gave her a shopkins pencil topper bc she couldn't believe DD didn't have any, haha), but this could apply to anything small your LO has a ton of like Littlest Pet Shop, cars, etc.

I'm HOPING that looking after a collection could be a good way to teach a little responsibility for her own things and motivate her to be tidy (so they don't get lost or her sister doesn't swipe them)...but with a nearly mobile baby, I'm also kind of nervous/don't want to have it be one more thing to nag her to clean up! But I keep reading blog posts about how organized/responsible these little kids are with their collections, and think she might enjoy curating one.
