My little boy is high needs and dr sears was one of our major helps. We started cosleeping because it was te only way for me to work. He wasn't difficult out of the house because I baby wore and nursed constantly. If that happened he was happy. It was tiring I have him in daycare because I need a break. I love him to pieces but he may put me in pieces. It gets better but mostly because i have come to terms with it. We have embraced the needs instead of trying to change them.

aww I'm so sorry!!! that is so hard.

I have been blessed with a great baby. I think he's pretty average - he can play by himself on the floor for about 20ish minutes because wanting to be held for a little while or wanting some more interactive play.

He is shy, but doesn't have stranger anxiety and if I hand him off he still goes to anyone without crying but he will show signs of wanting one of us. I don't consider that high needs at all.

awww i'm sorry that it's been a tough day! high needs babies usually grow out of it. my brother was very high needs -- my mom couldn't even give him a bath because he would scream bloody murder every time!

both charlie and olive are pretty mellow average babies i think.

My daughter is three and she still hasn't outgrown it! I don't think she ever will. She got easier to deal with around her first birthday, but she's still high needs compared to other kids her age.

I posted something similar a few weeks ago and Dr. Sears describes my dd perfectly too! It can be so tough! My dd is the same she's super sweet and outgoing at home and has a tough time in large crowds, stranger anxiety started around 4.5 months for her. We were at a family party this weekend and she was miserable! She fussed and at points screamed, until I took her upstairs to nurse, and she was fine again happy and smiley! I can definitely relate!

LO was very high needs in the early months. I literally could not put her down. She would cry uncontrollably. It was exhausting. Now at 5 months she has calmed down, but she's definitely very active, a little "hypertonic" in that she's always tense, wanting to stand, etc., and she definitely has a strong opinion. I think we will have our hands full with an active toddler once she starts walking. She has gotten better at entertaining herself, but still gets upset at being put down sometimes.

I've come to terms with the fact that my LO is a high needs baby. She's easily startled (example: cries when people sneeze loudly), it's so hard to eat out at restaurants with her because when she cries, the crying escalates incredibly quickly, and she's generally just tough to predict. At home, she's a happy go lucky baby. Outside the home, it's a different story. I actually had to drop out of her music classes because she would cry uncontrollably whenever we stepped into the facility. She has also developed stranger anxiety at 5 months. It's so frustrating, today I cried.

This is my LO to a T:

Was/is your LO a high needs baby, and if so, when did they grow out of it?
