Similar to @mrs.earrings I have met more dogs with my name than people (though I think it's becoming more popular). My current favorite girls name is also my SIL's dog's name... which my husband doesn't love, but since it would be a nickname I think he can deal.

@daniellemybelle: Bonnie is my name :) and yup, those are the comments I got. But it just made me think "those dogs are so lucky to have an awesome name!" I'm conceited like that :P

My LO's name is definitely a girl name. My DH didn't like some of my top names-Cameron, Avery, Jordan or Micah because he thought they were too ambiguous. :-(

Yup, both sexes use DS1's name. The worst part - its a name from an incredibly popular movie franchise, and there's a line in the movie that says: "We named the dog [DS1's name]". So, not only is it gender neutral, pets also can sport his awesome name, AND he's gonna hear that line (and the movie score) all the time. Poor kid!

Mine is definitely a girl-only name. But I've met a lot of people with dogs that have my name... not sure how to take that - haha

ETA - I totally missed the "LO" part of the question! Doh! My LO's name is only a woman's, but it could be easily modified for a guy's name.

My name is used by both sexes. Although, my spelling is more for boys. I haven't heard of any pets with my name. The names we picked out are definitely for one sex. Don't think they are good for pets either. Although, nowadays pets are named anything.

Our girl name is a very popular dog name. I knew a girl named Bonnie in high school and she said that people either told her, "That's my dog's name!" or "That's my grandma's name!" Our girl name isn't Bonnie, but I like that name a lot. My point is, I tend to like girl names that people give their dogs, like Maggie, Molly, Lucy, Abbie, Sophie, Duchess... just kidding about the last one! So it doesn't bother me too much, although I know our little girl will have to deal with hearing the same comments Bonnie did. :)

My name is more often used for pets than humans (I have met horses, cats, dogs, pigs, and even a sheep with my name!), especially in NZ. I dont care though because I love my name. The name we want to call our first daughter is also used for pets sometimes, but not for boys. It really doesn't bother me.

Haven't met any dogs named Cameron, and I have met a lot of dogs in my line of work ;) Wouldn't bother me though since most people consider them such a big part of their lives and families.

Our dog's name is Dan though, we tend to go with human names for our pets.

I have never heard our potential LO's name used for those of the cane variety, but both names we are considering are gender neutral.

My friend actually named her son the same name as my cat (I had the cat for a year or so first ... she tried to get me to change the cats name but he had it first!).

My Newfoundland dog's name is Charlie ... and my FIL's name is Charlie as well, I picked the dogs name before I met him though, it does lead to the odd confusing discussion.

People seem to name their pets all sorts of things so I wouldn't take it personally if my LO shared a name with a dog. I think it's kind endearing ... for a boy (sorry to sound sexist) but for a girl, it's not so cute.

As for my own pets, I tend to name them after food/terms of endearment. It makes it difficult to find a nickname for the baby when I had a lot of pets in the past!

This might be slightly off topic - but a girl's name for our future LO that I LOVE is Everly (or Everleigh). I feel like a common nickname for that would be Evie (although I know there are a couple of others). Unfortunately our dog's name is Evie haha! I'm not sure if that's a complete deal-breaker on the name for me - but it has given me some uncertainty.

This is something we really want to avoid. My name is used by both sexes but with different spellings. There's nothing wrong or bad about it, just don't want to use it for our baby. Of course, there's no way to prevent 6 billion other people from using "our" name for the opposite sex.
