Thanks for replying, ladies. On the one hand, it's good to know that my unit isn't faulty but then again, my thoughts of trying to get a replacement unit is dashed, lol. I'll check the flaps to see if that could be the case.

I was hoping to use it for baby #2 later on but that doesn't look likely :(

Yup! My Medelsa Pump In Style totally makes a loud noise. Sometimes I get embarrassed pumping at work because I know that people can hear it through the pumping room door. And I did notice that the suction got weaker over time.

Have you tried the hospital grade pumps? O M G what a difference!

Yes! My Medela PISA makes a loud whooping noise too, and it has been loud since day 1 of use. The only time it lost suction is when one of the little white flaps had a small tear that I hadn't noticed. Once I replaced it, the suction returned to normal. I've been using mine for less than 3 months though. I've heard they can become less powerful over time.

Hi,

So I've had my Medela Pump in Style breastpump for a little over a year now and I've noticed that the suction isn't as strong as it used to be. First off, I never thought that the suction was all that strong in the first place but it seemed to get the job done so I didn't think much of it. Recently, I mentioned the decreased suction to my friend and she asked if it was making any funny noises. I replied that it has always made a loud pumping noise, to which she asked, "Is that normal?"

The fact of the matter is I have no idea. I bought the pump, started using it, and just assumed the loud "whooping" noise it makes is normal. Is it? Does your pump make a loud "whooping" sound? and did it start to lose suction at any time?
