I think so. She didn't have anything bad to say about nursing her at 1+. But we moved so I only saw her when LO was over a year. The practice I went to before, I hadn't settled in with one pediatrician. The practice said it was very breastfeeding friendly but the responses we got when we saw different ped's varied from supportive to undermining. The worst one we saw was a guy that touted the nutritional benefits of formula over breastfeeding and gave me like 3 prescriptions at our 6 month visit since he was concerned she wouldn't be getting formula. His concern was based on nothing health wise of LO, just that he thought formula had special ingredients, I didn't fill any of the prescriptions since they were based on a lot of wrong information.

My ped's motto is "whatever works for you works for me". She did offer lots of advice on how to up my supply when i asked for it, though. I know she BF'd her own kids.

@highwire: Yeah I would say she is, but she was also nonjudgmental about us ff'ing.

@artbee: Similar experience here...not bursting into tears, but I was so distraught. Lo was jaundiced, losing too much weight (just short of 10%), etc., and so I ended up pumping and then quitting. I don't know what she would have said if I went in there and just said, "nope, don't wanna." But she was nice to me the way it played out.

Ours is. I recently made a visit just to talk about his lack of drinking my milk from a bottle. She assured me that he could reverse cycle and drinking 2oz a day is okay as long as he has wet diapers. She asks what my plans are to continue and was supportive that, even if he doesn't go back to drinking bottles at daycare, I do not need to quit breastfeeding or give formula. She's great! (He's 9 months.)

I think he's good with both formula and breastfeeding..... I never felt pressured either way. But it could have helped that when they asked me if I was BFing I burst into tears because I felt so guilty that it wasn't working for us..... so obviously he wasn't going to yell at me and tell me I should have kept trying.

He very much so is but he wasn't judgmental when we ended up weaning completely around 7 months for varying reasons. But he kept telling me how great I was doing and never once even mentioned formula. He told me that if things got tough or I was questioning how much she was getting, to call the LC at their office because she helped his wife through breastfeeding their kids. I'm glad we ended up with him since it was completely random due to us moving so late.

Yes! They have LCs on staff and for the first few weeks we spent most of our time with them. Only saw the Ped for a few minutes each visit.

Our pedi is! Never once suggested formula or weaning or anything. With DS1 he was always asking what formula we used though because he assumed I'd quit bfing and was always shocked and happy to learn we were still going strong. He never asked with DS2.

Yes, she's pro-BFing. She even had me feed him in the office at his first well-baby visit to check his latch, etc.

Our hospital was pretty pro-BFing as well...we were never offered formula at all, and I saw multiple LCs while I was there. But DS had a great latch, no jaundice and my milk came in before we left so there was really no need?

I don't really know. She only ever saw us for our well baby checkups and since everything was fine she didn't suggest anything. We did see and ND about our allergy issues and she was super pro-bf :)

My pediatrician is-- but she's not the one who saw us in the hospital (someone else from the group did). They had us supplement for the first 2-3 days (even the nurses agreed, and it's a "baby friendly" hospital, so they are all about BFing).

How much weight did your LO lose?

My doctor kept saying he was all about being breastfeeding friendly...but he had us supplementing with formula before we even checked out of the hospital (she was losing weight and my milk wasn't in whatsoever). So, I'm not sure if I'd agree with him calling himself that, or maybe the weight loss warranted the supplementing. I'm not sure.
