Also, if your pet came with one and it was never registered, do that now. The company only has your information if you give it to them (not every shelter, pet store, breeder, rtc does). As a former shelter worker, it is heart breaking to get a pet in, scan the chip, and call the company only to have no info or wrong info returned. Then you know the animal has a family, but you have no way to get him or her back to them. Before, we'd always lived in big condo/apartment buildings where the likelihood of him getting out and going very far was pretty much nil, but now he actually could sneak out.
