I've never heard of this. Mine is just drop off whenever you want. We have maximum times but not minimum times. I can pick up or drop off whenever.

ETA: out of courtesy, I call if we aren't going to be dropping him off until later.

@Anagram: @brownie: Ours is about circle time as well. Interesting to know that this is more common than I thought.

@mrbee: We do the exact same thing, except I'll skip a day if she's really late (it only happens when I'm flexible and hasn't happened often).

@SugarplumsMom: pre-k is at a k to 2nd grade primary school here so they have a bell schedule and i would think they all function around it and would find it odd if parents tried to become an exception. i would think daycare would be more lax but then again maybe they all prefer the routine and interruptions of that unsettle them as it often does children.

No, drop-off is at 9 and we are often 5-10 minutes late, and it's no issue. The days we have been later than that, though, they'll say, "Oh, we were wondering where you were!" And they are cleaning up from snack which they do first thing, so I get the feeling that they would rather her there to do snack with the other kids, which I understand!

They are definitely strict about pick-up at 3:00 - if you are there at 3:01 or later, you get charged by the minute for after-care! For the summer I went ahead and registered for after-care because it is MUCH cheaper to pay in advance even if we don't use it everyday!

They have requested that we come by 9:15 or after 10:00 so we don't disrupt circle time. We need flexibility because he has commitments in the morning and that's my time with him. He has speech twice a week that doesn't even start until 9. And he doesn't go to sleep until 9:30 so we all wake up at 8.

I realize at some time he will go to school but by that time he won't nap and we can bring bedtime earlier. Until them we are late to bed and late to rise.

@Mamaof2: yep! If kids arrived after 9:15, all of the parents would get an e-mail about how important it was to be on time. Also, if we were late for pick-up (beyond 5 minutes), they would charge us :bummed:

Our daycare is not strict...that was actually a requirement for us. DH works noon to 8:30pm, so the only time he gets with E is in the mornings. So they hang out and play and then E gets to school around 10 must days, but that can vary a lot depending on what they do in the morning.

Our daycare was very flexible, but our daughter's preschool is pretty strict! They really appreciate a heads up if you do an early pickup. If we're ever late in the mornings, we just keep our daughter home until the afternoon session starts.

Yes both daycares we've used so far want the kids there by 9am. Even the doors don't open with the parent pin code/key after that, so in order to get inside you need to ring the bell.

Ours is as well and for good reason.... drop off is between 6:30 and 9:15 unless you call ahead (Dr appt, etc) Around 9 they serve breakfast and if need be send extra teachers home or move them around if they dont need them to meet ratios. It gets really hairy when they have a 2 hour delay due to weather and the whole school gets dropped off between 8:30 -9:15.

Our last school wanted all the older kids (toddler and up) to be at school by circle time (after breakfast). They had a loooong explanation in their parent contract that arriving after circle time is very disruptive for the student's schedules, etc.

But I'm sure the school was fine if parents called in on the odd occasion for being late.

Preschool for us last year was 2 hours and 45 minutes long, the first hour or so is outdoor time weather permitting. They were not strict about drop off time at all, but with a day that short, there isn't a lot of wiggle room.

Ours is. She can basically come between 7:00-8:30 for breakfast, and if she comes after breakfast, drop-off is at 8:30 (technically until 9:00, but that's pushing it). They want all kids to be present and ready for morning roll call at 9:00. Just curious what the norm is.

There was a mix-up with my schedule today and I called to tell them LO will be staying home. When I tried dropping her off 2 hours later (their outdoor play time, not during meal time), one of the daycare ladies from another room lectured me about my too late drop-off. Once I told her I called in, she backed peddled a bit and said she didn't realize I called in.

Is your daycare/prechool this strict?

Eta: I'm extremely happy with all other aspects of her daycare and fully understand why they want them all there at a certain time, but I'm just curious if it's supposed to be this strict.
