Easier in some ways, harder in others. DD was a much fussier infant, but she's always been super independent. DS is much more dependent, which means more hugs for momma, but that can also be really tiring. He sleeps less, eats more, and is physically much bigger than DD, which majes for a much more labor intensive day. On the other hand, DD is more emotional and dramatic, which can be emotiobally draining.

Overall, I'd say the transition from 1 to 2 was so much easier than 0 to 1, partially because of personality differences and partially because we are much more laid back parents this time around.

@autumnlove: our second child (DS) is definitely easier (by a huge margin)!! DH and I are both amazed... he sleeps ANYWHERE (not just on our chests), and he seems to have fallen into a natural schedule all on his own. he doesn't even cry unless he needs to burp or is hungry. we can put him down anywhere and he'll just stare off into space...

our first (DD) was very sensitive to everything, she had reflux issues, was semi-colicky, and if we put her down anywhere besides our arms she would immediately wake up and start crying.

So.much.easier!!! She sleeps, she eats, she doesn't really cry, she is less picky! Totally unlike DS. Their personalities differ though. DS is laid back (likes everyone, goes with the flow type of boy) and DD has a temper (doesn't like anyone other than mom, dad and brother) she also doesn't like to cuddle and DS does.

I count my first three as one since they were all the same age. my daughter is way easier than the three boys. I am not sure if its because after three anything is easy, or if its her personality, or I have more confidence as a parent but it is easier.

@T.H.O.U.: G was a really easy going baby... Infact before P I totally thought different "needs" babies were a product of parenting. Since P, I've learned that is sooooo not true. lol (atleast not the only factor)

I think dealing with things is much easier because she is #2 (and I'm experienced with infants now)!

In general she has settled into being a much easier baby than #1 (sleep-wise, at least) but the first 4 months almost killed me!!!! haha like @runsyellowlites: I laughed out loud when I read your comment. So the same with LMW. Most nights I would just be like "I cannot take it anymore!"

She is a little more needy than Wagon Jr. was, but she's more cuddly which more than makes up for it!

They are completely different and have had their own challenges. My first is the sweetest, quiet girl- but she has always been really sensitive. So my challenge with her had definitely been more of an emotional one. My second is a little sass pot-always been fearless and stuborn. So my challenges with her have mostly been about safetly and following directions. I can't wait to see how my 3rd here is gogin to turn out personality wise.

I do think that parenting the second time is easier becaause you know what to expect and don't get frazzeled so easily. At least this was the case for me. Now with number 3 here I feel like a pro.

My newphew was second, and was MUCH more difficult than my niece (my sister's first). My sister is a schedule nazi and parented the same both times....but my newphew was screaming/crying constantly. "Fussy" is putting it mildly. He screamed in the car seat (the whole ride), he screamed every night (most of the night). Her first didn't do any of that.

My #2 is a lot easier. More laid back and happy-go-lucky. It could be because he was left alone more, but I think it's also his personality. My #1 had a terrible stranger anxiety until almost-2. My #2 (15 months currently) takes no time to warm up.

yes and no. olive is much more independent because she's a second child and i think that's more her personality (not just a result of our parenting).

but overall she is fussier than charlie so i think she is a more difficult child in general, but she seems easier because we're more experienced parents.

my younger brother was waaaaay harder than i was and my mom was not prepared for that!

#2 DS was so much easier than #1 DD. Until he hit around.. 15 months. Sigh. It was nice while it lasted. I am totally losing years off my life every day trying to keep him alive and out of trouble.

My friend had an easy first and I thought for sure there couldn't be an easier child and her second would "show her". Sure enough, #2 is also easy going. I do think a lot has to do with parenting.

Most of my friends tell me that their second babies are so much easier. Is that the case for you?

Do you think the second child is really easier or are we just better parents (who know what to expect) the second time around?
