Yes!

@RachieCakes: While I am fumbling with the Ikea instructions, DH has everything organized and almost intuitively knows how to put it together. He even has pretty feet. *sigh*

Surprisingly yes. I think it's a stereotype that Jews aren't good handyman, at least in my house growing up my dad wasn't and my brother isn't. But DH usually can fix things himself, and if he can't his dad will help.

Nope. I'm a tad bit handier than him, but not much. We definitely keep the contractor and handyman business alive -- we had to hire a handyman service to come hang our blinds and shades, for goodness' sake. But we can do little things -- like I caulked our bathtub, and feel like I could handle switching out a light fixture and things like that.

Kind of, it really depends. He can hang lighting and do little repairs (he fixed our dishwasher a couple months ago) and he is learning how to use a bunch of woodworking tools in our basement (he just made this awesome cat box bench..it's a bench that hides the cat box! very Ikea Hacker style) but if it's anything big or extensive, we'll hire someone.

Yes! And so glad! He just redid our half bath right before the baby came, and it's beautiful! The only thing he would rather call someone on is electrical. He can change out a switch/light fixture/fan, but if it's something extensive, he'd rather call someone who has the knowledge.

Added bonus he is sexier then any other handy man I have seen.

I love him dearly, but he is not handy at all. I am far more handy that he is. When it comes time to do home renovations, we might do some small stuff with help from DH's dad. He's super handy.

He'll be like "I'm going to the gym..." And then 3 hours later he'll show up with a truck full of random stuff and be like, "I stopped at Home Depot for a minute after the gym..." But he really enjoys tinkering around the house so I'm just grateful:).

Maybe not a pro handyman diy'er but we're learning! We attempt to DIY everything with our house. We figure there's tons of resources now (DIY and how to's on line, coworkers who are DIYers who can offer advice and help, no one will take care to do the best job on your own home as you would, it's nice to look around the house and say I did that, and the more we learn about the house and fixing it up, the easier it gets.

DH is very good with the handyman stuff! Growing up, my dad was about as mechanically declined as one could possibly be, so I'm not used to having someone in the house who can actually do stuff. having DH be able to fix things, problem solve, and assemble/install things in the house has been wonderful!

Nope, he is not handy at all; which is fine by me. A lot of the renovations done to our condo by the previous owner were DIY jobs, and most of them were done incorrectly in some part and we had to have them professionally redone sooner than if they had had a professional do them in the first place; which can be much more expensive in the long term. (for example, the garbage disposal plumbing for 1 pipe was done incorrectly so the disposal completely rusted out much sooner than if it had been plumbed correctly from the start. For the repair, we than had to get a new disposal and pay for the replumbing of that pipe. Similar situation for the water heater, which resulted in a $1500+ repair which could have been easily avoided by hiring someone who knew what they were doing from the start).

Absolutely. It was an important quality that I was hoping for in my future my husband and I lucked out! He does everything from woodworking, drywall, electrical, cars (not just replacement and maintenance but building from the ground up), etc. I won't let him paint walls though. He is an absolute mess when it comes to painting walls so that is one thing I do myself.

We both are pretty handy. We have done our own tile, wood floors and stuff like that.
He built me a Chicken coop which I was SO EXCITED about and LOVE. I wanted chickens so bad and love my "ladies" I have now. We live on a couple acres...so we kind of need to be hands on and what not to even just maintain that. Plus he was an electrician, as was I. The only thing that I do more than him is wood working.

My DH can hang pictures and shelves and other easy projects. As for DIY home renovations, he would rather hire out. Do it right the first time... Although the money savings of DIY is appealing.
