we have 3 boys also and it's hard to come up with 3 names that we both love. My husband likes more common traditional somewhat boring names and I like things that are more unique. He thought of the name for our first and it was pretty easy. With our second we did not agree at all but I stuck firm with the name I loved and he eventually came around. With the third holy cow it was hard. He didn't have a name for hours after he was born.

Nope, I am! Not like he comes up with many suggestions but the one boys name he really likes I vetoed and pretty much 100% of all other names in existence I have vetoed as well.

@catlady: Yes, this is my DH exactly. He finds it hilarious to suggest absurd names, and actually I'm not entirely sure he's joking :silly:

Yes. We've only been through it once so far, but DH is a teacher and almost EVERY name has a connotation to him (whether good or bad). He was even kind of against names of "good" students that I liked because it seemed like he was naming DD after them.

YES. We have similar taste, but he's like your husband and likes things very plain. Haha! Our biggest argument is usually because I try to stay away from top 10ish names and he thinks thats absurd. :P If this baby is a girl, she might end up with a top 10-er.

ETA: FWIW, I like all 3 of your options in this post. :)

Yes! I'm tempted to try and use reverse psychology on him to get him to agree to a name I really like! He doesn't like anything that is even remotely outside the traditional and normal box, so it severely limits our choices. For a boy, I liked Lachlan, Finley, Oliver, and Henry. All vetoed and we eventually agreed on a rather 'boring' name if this baby is a boy. Similar story with girls names....sigh.

We have this trouble only with boy names for some reason... Even if we can agree on one boy name, we can never figure out middle names. Argh!

We were probably equally picky. I would suggest names I liked a lot but didn't love and didn't feel perfect to me, and he would say no, but it's not like I really wanted to use them anyway. Luckily our taste is really similar since we are both so picky!

Our first we were team green and never decided on a boy name. Like we had two top options and didn't love either. Luckily she was a girl and we decided on that one early. Or second wasn't named for ten hours after she was born, and we knew she was a girl!

Yes. When we first talked about names, I showed him my whole long list. We agreed on one name. That's what we went with. I liked the name, but didn't love it. We can't seem to agree on boys names at all, so I have no idea what we'll use if we have a boy next.

It kind of feels like he is but actually, we agreed on LO's name pretty quickly. I think it helps that I have a list a mile long and we just have to agree on one.

The main problem I have is that he doesn't really ever suggest names, or if he does, they are so out there that I can't ever tell if he is joking (seriously, it's been years and I still have no idea if he actually thinks Ezra is a good name for a girl or if he just likes to get a rise out of me).

Mine is this way. He vetoes all of my mine. In our very first conversation about names, we both liked a lot of the same names. There was a lot of vetoing, but I thought it went well and thought we had a few good options. But weeks later, he told me he was joking and all of those names had to be tossed! What?!?! That should be against the rules.

So we had to start over...and it's been so hard. I like classic names and he likes obscure/a-bit-too-unique names. When I stretch myself and offer less classic, more unique names, he vetoes them.

There is one classic girl name he likes because it was his grandmother's name. I like it, but don't love it. I don't like the idea of settling at this point.

We are no where on boy names.

My husband vetoes EVERY SINGLE NAME. It's not a new phenomenon. He just likes very classic, plain names and if I bring up anything even slightly trendy or slightly interesting....automatic veto.

Right now we have not a single contender for DS3 because of this! The only names he has suggested are: Matthew and Collin. He likes Grant (which I also like) but doesn't like the fact that it has no nickname. Luckily, we have about 5 more months to decide, I think we'll need it!
