He is not a smart shopper, but luckily he would never go buy something on his own without asking or making me come with him.</p> <p>I would do annnything to make DH be responsible for money/bills. I think it's because while we have savings and "financial security," all of that can change in a moments notice.</p> <p>I put financial security in quotes because it's really not financial security in the sense that if we both lost our jobs we'd be fine for the rest of our lives. We have to work if we want money, pure and simple. He doesn't really compare prices so much while grocery shopping and I'm way more concerned with getting the best deal on things-- to a flaw, where I'm spending way too much time on it. </p> <p>But in the long term he is not so laid back. He has aggressive savings plans and is always convinced we will need more money to afford the kind of lifestyle we want. We're exactly the same in terms of our spending habits - we both hate spending money on 'stuff' but spend money freely on vacations and activities. We are huge savers and love watching our savings account grow. We know we have at least one more international move coming up, followed by the purchase of a house in our next country, so it's easy for us to save and not spend superfluously.</p> <p>That being said, if we want something or need something, we buy it. He's not irresponsible, he doesn't overspend, and, when it comes to most things, he looks for deals and savings. On the other hand, he doesn't seem to WORRY about money the way I do. I keep a strict budget for myself, weigh the pros and cons of big purchases, and am generally more hesitant to spend than he is. I mean, he looks for deals because he thinks it is smart, not because he feels like he won't be able to afford it otherwise.
