yeah, my DH didn't think about LO's naps until LO was around 9 months? i never found it to be a big deal. he'd ask "do you think he's..." and I could just answer "well because he's doing xyz, I'd guess he's whatever". DH did get better at telling signs apart after a few months of that. but he never said "hey it's nap time" until 9 months or later!

Ha when E was a little babe every time he cried or fussed at all D would assume he was hungry (sometimes to the point of putting him on my boob). He reads him much better now, but his "tired vs hungry vs bored" cues are much more pronounced.

I just think dads are different than moms. If you are around, he's probably relying on you to take the lead. But if he had the baby all alone, I bet he'd be more keyed in to everything including nap time. At least that was my experience.

We were in this position for a while. I actually had to just straight up explain that if he suggested she was hungry every time she fussed, I would throw them both out the window. :) he's still not as vigilant as I am, but at 6 mos he's pretty clued in re. naps and often puts her down.

@rahlyrah: yeah I guess it would be easier if naps were more predictable- ours are still very dependent on when she woke up and how long the last nap was. He is better at putting her down at night and always takes bedtime :)

My DH is pretty good about it. LO's naps are pretty predictable and almost always occur at 9:30, 12:30, and 3. DH is actually better at getting him to nap than I am so he often takes nap duty on the weekends.

He used to be like your DH and think every sign of fussiness = hungry. B has a pretty distinctive tired whine he developed over the past month or so that makes it much more obvious.

Dh is great with C in terms of playing with her, but he never watches for tired signs or keeps an eye on the clock to know that she's getting tired. I get tired of being the nap police, and I've explained that a soon as she looks at all tired or between 60-90 minutes, we should start putting her down. He never is the one the watch for it or suggest it. If he is sitting holding her and she's fussy, it's always "Do you think she's hungry?" I have explained she isn't always hungry, but sometimes you need to stand up and entertain her, and sometimes she's tired.

I'm still nursing to sleep for most naps so to be fair, I am the one that has to deal with it, but it would be nice if he would think about it too. That's all.
