They just opened up a bar/pub near my house where you can bring your dog. The dogs can even sit right up at the table with you!!!
Now THAT is what I call dog-friendly... drinking beer with your pooch!

@artbee: yup I've seen big dogs at stores, not just little ones.

eta: oh and the dogs don't have to be in carts. They're on leashes. But bed bath and beyond recently put into a effect a dog cart rule. Their carts are different from other carts and are marked for dogs only.

Ours is really dog friendly. We just got back from the dog beach. Most restaurants allow dogs on the patios and most shops let dogs in as well.
And landlords are required to allow pets.

My community is pretty dog friendly. There are miles and miles of green belt trails and people are always walking and jogging with their dogs, myself included. In town center all the restaurants have outdoor seating.

I have read that Seattle has more dogs than children, so I think that probably qualifies it for "dog-friendly" status... right? :)

That being said, I have to admit I am not a fan of dogs (we have a cat, though). Just this morning I caught a guy out in front of our condo building that did not pick up after his HUGE dog. That has been a real problem in our building lately and I felt so triumphant when I confronted him and he picked it up!

@NYCaliMama: Do they even let big dogs in these places? I've seen little dogs in carts in stores like home depot and michaels, but never big dogs.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: It kills me when people are scared of my dog. He's also pretty big, 65 lbs, but the sweetest dog ever. I told one man he was very friendly because he looked scared to go past us (I was holding on tight to his leash of course), and the man said that he didn't look like he has a friendly face. I think he was scared because my pup looked like he wanted to jump up on him. But he only wanted to lick him!

my neighborhood in NYC is very dog friendly. all the buildings around me including ours allows dogs. There's a doggie daycare next door as well as at least 3 dog parks that I know of within a 15 min walk away. Dogs are usually allowed in restaurants with outdoor seating and in stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, etc... They've given my pup dog treats before! One local burger joint and a few other eateries have special doggie desserts too!! Oh there's also a lot of pet stores and it's not unusual to see a dog in a stroller occasionally... We saw one today in fact!

@artbee: I don't think so. They probably get it alot. One of the employees said, "someone had an accident!" and then we looked back and saw the trail of poop. Ugh, we had no idea. I dragged her out of the store to the grass and of course, she didn't have to go anymore. My DH cleaned up the mess. LOL

Yeah, mine is SUPER friendly with people and just wants to say hi to everybody. But not everybody wants to say hi to a 70 lb boxer with a tail that can kill! lol

@abbydabbydoodlebug: Lol, that's so funny! Did the people at Petsmart get upset? I wonder if that happens often. Our dog used to be like that. He's very friendly and just wants love from everybody, and he used to be crazy about getting it. But now he's on prozac (for the separation anxiety) and he's older, so he's calmed down so much!

I think my town is mostly dog friendly, but we don't bring her many places because she is reactive (not aggressive, just really really wants to say hi and she's basically rude!) towards other dogs. But there's dog parks around the city and there's some restaurants allow dogs on their patios. I would say we are dog-friendly. We do have a 93% no kill rate for our shelters, yay!

Btw, the ONE time we took our dog to petsmart, she pooped while walking down the aisle... the ENTIRE aisle had poop down it. Embarrassing!

I love love love where I live because there's so many places that my dog is allowed to go. We hate leaving him home because he has separation anxiety, so it's hard to actually go out and do things. I live about two minutes from downtown where there are tons of outside restaurants and he's even allowed in some of the stores. I think it's good for their business because I wouldn't shop as much if I couldn't bring my pup.
