I had pupps but I was definitely more mild than the ones I've seen online. I didn't want steroid cream because who knows what that does to the baby. I just put cool, wet towels on my belly, which helped w the itching. Itchiness went away within the week....

@owlwho: Thanks for your post, I've never heard of PUPPS before your post. I looked it up and it looks pretty scary! It must have been horrible having to put up with the itch while breastfeeding!

So far, mine doesn't look like that. I absentmindedly scratched a spot raw while online and put witch hazel on it afterwards - both on the raw bit and the other side that was just itchy. It HELPED!

That was a few hours ago and now (after looking at it in the mirror) it's starting to itch again. I'm gonna apply more witch hazel to see if it works.

Thanks so much for your replies!

Yes! I had a very itchy belly for the last half of my pregnancy. Nothing much worked unfortunately, so I just tried to ignore it. Also, if you're using any lotions, make sure they are very gentle. You could be allergic to an ingredient!

I only had it for a couple days, but it was unbearable! Nothing worked to make it go away, unfortunately.

Ask your OB about Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy (PUPPS). My twin had it starting in her 3rd trimester (throughout summer months!) and I prayed that I wouldn't get it! Except that I got post-partum PUPPS and it lasted for about 4 weeks. When I asked my OB on the phone, she said PUPPS is rare and postpartum PUPPS is rarer and more likely the itch was from hormone changes. I saw her a week after delivery and she confirmed and apologized and said there was really nothing I could do but wait it out. Since I was BFing, she wouldn't rx me steroid creams and the OTC stuff didn't work.

The itch started in stretch marks and became small bumps that came together to cover almost the entire itchy area. I want to think the areas were raised from irritation, they were red and inflamed (google search PUPPPS and that's what it looks like). I think my sister tried tar soap, oatmeal baths, sarna. They all give brief relief but nothing cures it. Anti-itch creams didn't work. Frozen or chilled washcloths helped too. I forgot all about PUPPs, for good reason! It itched like hell and nothing helped and I had to wait it out. And try not to itch them, it only makes it worse!

I hope yours is just a short-lived itch and not PUPPs!

I had some itching and I had been using aquafor. I found out that I was developing a lanolin allergy (and aquafor has some lanolin in it). I switched to a coconut based oil and the itching got much better, though it didn't completely go away.

Eek!! I didn't have belly itchies until AFTER my lo was born. So odd. Anyway, I think it's natural since your skin is stretching! I would keep it lathered up with lotion and drink lots of water!

I'm 29 weeks and my tummy just started to itch on the side where I'm developing stretchmarks. It's now traveled to the other side, where the other stretchmarks are. I know that the itching only aggravates the stretchmarks forming, but I can't help it!

Is this normal?
