This is too late I think! And I am super paranoid, but one thing I've told the nanny is that if she ever gets frustrated with the baby, it's ok to put the baby in the pack and play or crib and leave the room for a minute (i.e. don't shake the baby). She thinks I'm crazy by the way. Also, if anything ever happens like she drops the baby or the baby or toddler hurt themselves, she can tell me. It's better to tell me that not say anything.

I've cared for a lot of children over the years, and think these are great ideas! I've never been asked to log everything throughout the day and might find that to be intense, but I would take note if something was off or a change in the schedule. For fun, you may want to show her how she can take pictures on the iPad.

@T.h.o.u.--I think that's a great point about keeping communication open. Likewise, while I'm sure you've already conveyed this, it's nice to feel like you're being trusted and respected for your knowledge as a nanny. Who knows, she may do something a little differently that works wonders for your baby! I once watched the world's fussiest sleeper and discovered a routine that worked in getting her to sleep. I showed the mom (it was really kind of humorous with walking back and forth in straight lines, mimicking her sleepy sounds), and she was very grateful.

@MerryC: I agree with the idea of talking obit a weekly or daily routine for activities. Maybe say one walk per day weather permitting, two reading book sessions per day and one hands on activity per day. That is probably way more detailed than you need to be but I would want to know and set my expectation that they should read books twice a day not twice a week.

Also maybe talk about ways that she can communicate with you if things aren't working. I would want someone to be able to tell me if something wasn't working

Your list looks great, if you get a chance maybe put together a binder with all of that emergency info as well as printouts of baby CPR, Heimlich, basic first aid, directions to hospital, pediatrician etc. you can use that same binder for your nanny log so it is at her finger tips.

Most people's alarm system has a code word, you should give that to her in case she accidentally sets the alarm off (well, assuming they call your land line...)

@sooz: @LemonLong: Thank you.! I'm going to see what her comfort level is with the ipad, as I'd prefer to use the app, but she's in her late 50s and I know does not have a smart phone, so to navigate an ipad app may be too much. If so, we'll just do paper!

@PrincessBaby: the baby connect app will let your nanny log diaper changes, feeding, sleep, mood, etc and you can see it real time. My husband and I both used it to keep track of our LO!

I also have a nanny log where she writes down the times of his naps and how much and when he eats. I also use that log to write down any notes I have for the day (e.g., what time he woke up, etc.)

I also showed our nanny the various parks in our area and then also found out about any activities that they could go to during the day (e.g., story time at the library, etc.).

@littlek: A friend told me she used some sheets that required all of that info...I also heard there's an app that allows her to upload info and for me to log in and see it during the day. Thank you for reminding me! I need to locate one or the other!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Wow, I never thought of that! Another thing for me to obsess over- lol:). Yeah, I guess I've never had this situation before where I have to tell someone what to do for me and it's kind of awkward! but I need to make a list of what she should be doing when H is sleeping- her laundry, cleaning bottles, general light cleaning/loading/unloading dishwasher, etc

Is she going to keep a journal of your LOs day? For example, time of feedings, amount taken, # diapers changed, what type of diaper (ex: wet, bm), times and length of naps, general attitude during the day, etc. You may want to talk about how you would like her to document these items for you.

I'm a Floridian as well and my self-defense instructors (local cops) said to shout to solicitors through the door: Who is it?! This way if its an intruder and not a solicitor they will not go around to the back of the house and break through a slider or window because now they know for sure someone is home.

I would show her where the cleaning supplies are and make it clear what is on/off limits in the kitchen (food, dishes etc) and what you expect her to do in terms of light cleanup. Example: if you tell me just to wash my dishes after I use them then that is all I will do; but if you want her to dry and put away let her know.

maybe how to operate the appliances and electronics. and other house rules....like is your food fair game? can she watch TV? is she helping with other chores like H's laundry?

and maybe this is weird, but stress activities that are important to you? like goals to read X number of books or do X minutes of tummy time.

if she doesn't know the area well, maybe show her possible paths or parks to walk.

discuss how and when you'd like communication with her throughout the day, if you haven't already.

How about emergency contact info/neighbors, etc. We always leave that info with our sitter, along with the numbers to the pediatrician, poison control, our work, etc. Do you have any specific things you want her to do while LO is sleeping? Clean bottles, laundry, etc? I used to nanny in college and I was always happy to have a list of things to do to keep me busy.

Do you have a fact sheet about H? Its nice to have written down your address (to tell emergency vehicles where to go), her height, weight, and DOB and any allergies.

Come to think of it, I would probably write down everything that you have written here. It would be nice so she can refer to it if needed.

The nanny we hired is coming over tomorrow to go over everything she needs to know before starting to keep H on Tues when I return to work. I want to make sure she has everything she needs, knows where everything is, understands H's semi-schedule, and also how to use things like the Snuza Hero and to put it on her every time she sleeps..

Here is my list, but I'm sureI'm missing very important things, so if you have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!

- Nursery location of items-clothing (mainly wears sleep and plays while at home), swaddles, sheets, wipes, thermometer, etc
- Schedule- just basically EASY method....
-Activities- Gym, tummy time, playing with her
- how to operate the UBV if they want to go for walks, etc
- How to install car seat w/o base, just in case, although we don't plan on her taking H anywhere....And we don't want to pay $80 for an extra base for her infant seat when we'll be buying a convertible car seatin a couple of months
- No blankets in crib, obviously I'm sure she knows that

House Rules:
- We get a lot of solicitors coming right up to our door and I have a rule of NEVER answering the door. At all. Ups and FedEx will leave packages at the door. We live in FL and people are crazy here, so I'd prefer that she just never open our door for anyone.
-Alarm code, & I'd prefer for it to be set on "Stay" throughout the day and just disarm it to go outside for anything
-Pediatrician info

And I am going to drive her to the nearest hospital so she can see where it is...She lives in another area so isn't totally familiar with our hood.

Anything else?
