@Mae: yeah, I loved it. There were so many specific criteria you needed to meet to be able to (eg amount of time abroad, timing of last visit to NZ etc), and it was the first election where it was offered, but I loved it! So much easier!

I used to vote in every election I could. I moved three years ago and for local elections a lot of people run unopposed. I don't vote in elections now unless there is a choice in candidate.

I vote in caucuses, primaries, and presidential elections as well as state/county elections.
My husband typically only does presidential, though I drug him to the primaries awhile back.

Yup, we both voted. And agree on the way the issue was presented.

We both almost always vote. I say almost always because today there were two elections and neither were opposed...so, we didn't vote. My husband worked for an elected official for many years so we understand the importance of voting and are fairly familiar with a lot of the candidates in our area.

Here in the US I can't vote (non citizen) so it's extra important to us that DH does. Since we raise a child here and live here, the laws impact us, so we want our family's voice heard.

Back home in New Zealand I vote in every major election. Our country is run on a more national, not local level. The only election I missed was my first one abroad, because I didn't realise the embassy's voting cutoff was a day earlier. I refused to make that mistake again and voted online from my hospital bed the day after DD was born!

Yes, we both always vote. Local elections can be really, really important to vote in - in our school district (made up of 3 towns), a vote last year to build a new high school has resulted in 7-10+% property tax hikes in those towns. And it passed by just *72* votes. So every vote counted there for sure!!

I'll take LO and vote after work. DH already voted. There are a couple of important petitions I need to sign there as well.

I vote in every single election, but there is nothing on the ballot today. There is a tax hike referendum for the school district in my hometown, though. There is a huge social media movement going on through Facebook - it's neat to see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them.

In Ohio anyways, not sure if it is the same throughout the country.

Do you vote in non-presidential elections? Does your spouse?

Just curious! When I was younger I never voted unless it was a presidential election, but as I've gotten older I've realized how much local politics affects my life and I make sure I always vote now. Still working on DH though :) He is very "meh" about politics.

This is a really interesting election for us in Ohio because we have (the stupidest ever) issue to legalize marijuana. (Which I'm in favor of generally, but the way they are doing it is annoying).
