So I had something like this happen in August. I had long strings and could always feel them. Then suddenly, after a few days of cramping and bleeding, I couldn't feel them. I freaked and couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, so I went to the ER. (I have Paraguard and had had it for a year when this happened). It turns out that my strings had curled, but they were really irritating my cervix and making it bleed. I ended up getting it out, but I didn't need surgery or anything.

I hope yours is OK! You, too, @Mrs. Tiger: !

Don't panic! When I got mine, I asked my doctor if I needed to check for strings from time to time (since I had read about it when researching them). He said I did not, and even if I did, I probably wouldn't find them since they can curl up. I returned 6 weeks later and he did an U/S and it was right where it was supposed to be, and at my yearly appointment, he checked again via U/S and it was still in the right spot.

There are certain times of the month where things are high up there and hard to find. The first time I was in an absolute panic, a week later I found the string curled around as mentioned above. .

@MrsSRS: I have never felt my strings, but at my annual in July my OB couldn't find them either. Of course I had a semi panic attack, but they got me in for a pelvic ultrasound & it was right where it should be. I've had mine about 18 months. My OB did say that if its going to move it usually happens in the first 4-6 weeks. Good luck!!

@Mrs. Tiger: For some inexplicable reason that makes me feel much better. Here's hoping those suckers are right where they belong with the strings just neatly curled up and hiding just inside the cervix!

No advice but I'm in the same boat and have to wait until next Thursday to get an u/s! I actually have never been able to feel the strings but this visit the OB couldn't see/feel them after a long and uncomfortable investigation. I took a pregnancy test to be sure and will use backup BC until Thursday. I've had it in for about 2 years.

Hope yours (and mine) are just hiding somewhere odd but safe!

Went for my 30 day check of my Mirena today, and my midwife couldn't find the strings. She left them long too. I did have some random sharp pain a few days ago, but it was brief so I wasn't worried. Advice on not panicking between now and my Friday ultrasound? Ugh, also, ultrasound was not in the budget this month!!!
