We didn't do IUI for MFI but I do think that frozen does affect it somewhat. Right now we are going through IVF and DH has a backup frozen sample there just in case there is an issue on the day of my egg retrieval, but my RE said that fresh sperm is preferable to frozen.

When we did IUIs, DH had higher numbers but our RE said that they look for at least 5 million post wash.

We didn't do IUI for MFI, the doctor actually said that with his numbers IUI's were only marginally higher chance, but I'll take any sort of better chance I can get. We had 3 IUIs, post wash numbers 125M, 96M and 65M. (clomid x2, and femera all bfns)

I think the lowest I had for an IUI was 3 million post wash and that was from a frozen sample that was taken at my old clinic and transported to my new clinic. They didn't know how much was frozen in each straw.

I've had IUIs with up to 65 million. Still unsuccessful but we are moving to IVF.

Ha! Sorry ladies, thought I would be notified if there were responses, but I guess not! :)

I feel much more confident now, thank you!

@KT326: thank you! BFN yesterday but it's still really early (9DPO today).

@mrsmate: yeah, we would do 'fresh' if we could but my sister is acting as our surrogate and we have an ocean separating us at the moment so freezing ahead of time was the best option for us.

I can't speak to the frozen part of the question but my RE always says that anything over 5 million was ideal. DH always has stellar numbers and our IUI's still don't work. I wouldn't worry about 7 million, that would be fine by our RE's standards.

My RE likes to see over 10mil, but with IUI you are doing a lot of the work for them remember........

My RE does back to back iui one 12hr post trigger DH count was 4.6mil and on iui 36hr post trigger his numbers were over 10mil,

I do think using fresh is preferable to frozen. I asked our nurse about it before IUI#1 to see if we could just "save some" in case it didn't work, and she said unless there were real issues w/DH coming in she didn't recommend it.

Btw, we had 15mil post-wash for #1 and 40mil for #2 (we were unexplained).

I think we had around 50,000...but the IUIs didn't work anyway. I think quality is more important than quantity unless the # is really low. We had low morphology which is my guess why ours didn't work.

I think those numbers are good. We only had 500,000 sperm post wash at our first IUI and 1 million at our second. I don't recall what my RE said were good numbers.

my doctor told me at our last iui that they really want over 10 million. ours was 8.5 (the month before, it was over 20 million...) and said it "should be fine, but it is borderline..."

i'm only 9 dpo so i don't know if it worked (i'm leaning towards no, though.)

i have no idea if freezing it makes a difference.

good luck!!

ETA: We had 40-50M post-wash 3 times, and 25M once. None worked (our dx is unexplained)

We had our second IUI going on five days ago and this has been bugging me ever since. Does anyone know what the average sperm count for IUI is? And am I wrong in assuming using frozen sperm affects it slightly? This last time there was only 7 million frozen sperm but the doctor just shrugged and said it was nothing to worry about when it was mentioned.
