@2farmmoms: I have a tilted uterus (I think thats the same thing?) and had two IUIs (the second one was successful) with zero problem! My RE said it shouldn't matter one bit. Good luck!

@MrsADS: thanks! I was in a midwives office so no ultrasound, but the device she used seemed to work well. She said without it she could get the catheter in about 1/2" and then it just stopped. She thought it was pushing against the top of the uterus because it was bent backwards. The only bad part was having the awful speculum in for so long!

I'm happy to hear that your IUI worked! Congrats! I hope you're having a great pregnancy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next two weeks!

My RE had a tough time with my IUI due to my retroverted uterus. The first attempt he could not get the catheter in the right position. Then, he had a nurse do an abdominal ultrasound while he threaded it in so he could watch it on the ultrasound. He was able to get it in but it took quite a bit longer than the normal procedure. Good news though, it worked and I'm 29 weeks pregnant!

Edited to add: he also mentioned that having some fluid in my bladder (not necessarily a full bladder) would have helped a little too - I guess it lifts up the uterus a little or something and improves the positioning.

I had my first IUI on Friday afternoon. I found out at my ultrasound earlier this cycle that I have a retroverted uterus. Also my cervix sits way off to the right. During the IUI the midwife commented on both of these things, and also had a really hard time feeding the catheter in. She ended up using a "uterine sound" to measure and guide the catheter in. She said it made my uterus stand up better, and sure enough was able to get the cath in no problem with the sound.

Have any of you had experiences like this? Did you have success after IUI with a retroverted uterus? I know it's not supposed to affect fertility, but I wonder if it has more of an effect if you're doing artificial insemination. I did have a really hard time getting the cervical cup to fit over the cervix when we used that method.
