definitely hard to be patient during this whole process.. especially when it is so easy for others and taking so much longer than we could have ever imagined. but I think you're right about waiting and doing all the necessary procedures before any form of expensive treatment

My RE made me do an HSG right away, due to anovulation......I think to just make sure I would get is done! I'd hate to go through 1-2 IUIs and have them fail and learn it was something an HSG would jave shown me! Good Luck!

My RE told me he'd only do an HSG if he thought I needed it done and he didn't. I had two IUIs done without doing an HSG but I agree with PPs. You're paying out of pocket so I'd do the HSG.

My RE was very big on doing an HSG before starting more expensive and involved procedures like IUI and IVF. Her point was that you're going to go through all of this and it may not work because of a simple fix.

I put it off for a while, but after I had a chemical pregnancy she convinced me because she said they didn't know where it might have implanted and could've caused a blockage.

@littleredhairedgrl: I've learned in this long IF journey that in the grand scheme of things, one extra month of waiting isn't really that bad. I tried to rush things before (i.e. - get an RX for Clomid before meeting with my RE) and my timeline was way underestimated for how long things take. For example, my initial consult with my RE was 4 months ago, and I just had my first IUI today. I did two Clomid cycles in between, but everything seems to take longer in the medical community than I'd like it to :)

@sunshine1810 yeah starting to think waiting till next cycle to make sure we are doing everything right is the best option. thanks!

I agree with @Shutterbug. I would hate to spend money out of pocket and not know for sure. IUIs are not covered by my insurance so I wanted to make sure I had done the HSG first. If it was covered by insurance, I might not have felt so strongly about it.

thanks @shutterbug i would be put under for both procedures. we would be paying out of pocket. guess I was just hoping to move along to the IUI quicker and now we have this setback due to the failed hsg.

If you're paying out of pocket, I think I'd have the HSG done first - I'd hate to waste all that money if I found out down the road that one of my tubes was blocked. If insurance covers the IUI, maybe go ahead with the IUI and do an HSG in a few months if the IUIs aren't successful. Would you be put under for the IUI as well?

Went to RE for the first time after ttc for almost a year and diagnosis is pcos, and stenotic cervix due to leep procedure; and dh with low morphology.

I have had 2 failed hsg tests due to the opening in my cervix being so small (tho I still do get a period) and very painful. Assuming all went well with the hsg I was supposed to have last Thursday, we were going to do our first IUI this cycle.

My RE recommended putting me out under general anesthesia for both hsg and IUI, but I'm wondering if I should just go ahead with the IUI and hope that I do not have any blockage that would prevent the procedure from being successful..

I'm very health conscious and at an ideal weight for my body, don't smoke, or drink, off soy and gluten.. Just couldn't imagine that we'd have a blockage in my tubes on top of everything else, but not sure if it's irresponsible to go thru an IUI without first being sure.. thoughts?
