I think @sweetooth brought up a good point there with how many babies you're open to having. For instance, we only ever want one - ever, so twins are not an option. So we wouldn't go with an RE who doesn't do single embryo transfer for IVF, and if I did IUI I'd want it to be closely monitored.

I haven't started IUI or IVF yet. But I'm similar to you in that I've been through all of the testing, I'm close to my mid 30s and we've been trying for 16 months too. I think @spaniellove provided a good list. I would also add that you should ask yourself a few questions:

- How aggressive with treatments do you want to be given your age?
- Do you hope to have more than 1? (I don't know your story - so forgive me if you already have kids)

I only share these questions because they are what I asked myself last week before I went in for my follow-up with my RE. We plan to start Clomid/IUI in the new year.

I haven't done IUI/IVF yet but am also at the point where I know I'll start one of the two in the next couple months. Have you been doing your testing with an RE so you're definitely done with the testing? And the result is unexplained infertility? You may want to ask:
-how many IUIs they want you to try, and whether you'll be on Clomid or other medications
-if they'll do a consult after an unsuccessful IUI/IVF and/or change the protocol or even do any further testing, or if you're expected to just come back and try again
-if your IUIs will be monitored with ultrasound

You should try posting your question on the infertility support thread - there are a lot of knowledgeable ladies there!

Hi. We have been ttc for 16 mths. I'm in my late 30s. We have had all the tests and we are good with everything. What questions would you ask the doctor in regards to what to do next?
