My gp was baffled by my weight loss, my consultant not so much. I was quite heavy to begin with and ob said once the babies were growing well and I was eating and feeling well, they really didn't mind if I continued to lose weight. I lost weight in the first tri, gained it back in the second and don't know what I did in the third as nobody bothered weighing me. The outcome though was that two weeks pp, I was 38 pounds lighter than I was at the end of September, when I was only five weeks gone.

So I'd be inclined not to worry about it, unless you're feeling unwell and it's having an effect on baby. Best of luck !

@Honeybee: I'm 17w3d. Doc mentioned 3 weeks ago that they were surprised by how much I'd lost then.

@MaisyMay: How far along are you? That might be why your doctor commented at your last appointment!

I lost about 12% with DD and about 10% with DS. Most of my weight loss happened in the first half of my pregnancy, and eventually I did gain back all I lost, but not much over that. But like I said, both of my kids were perfectly healthy at birth; everyone's bodies just gain weight differently, so losing might be perfectly normal/fine for you!

@Honeybee: Actually I just tipped the 5% mark, but that should be okay. I had a lot of weight to begin with. :-)

Typically, weight loss during pregnancy is considered "normal" until you lose more than 5% of your pre-pregnancy weight. If you're eating properly, keeping most of your food down, and consistently taking your prenatals, though, you're probably just fine. If your doctor was really concerned, they'd do some additional testing on you to make sure you're getting the nutrients you need to carry a healthy pregnancy.

Weight gain is really different from person to person, so I wouldn't worry too much at this point. :) My doctor are always telling me I need to gain more weight with my pregnancies, but my body just doesn't do it; my kids were still perfectly healthy, though, despite my struggles with weight gain!

I lost some weight at the beginning but that was because I was overweight when I got pregnant. When I cut out sugar and started eating right (nothing like a baby inside you to get your butt in gear) I lost weight.

I lost about 12 lbs in 7 weeks. I was taking zofran at the time too. My doctor is ok with it at this point (I am 18 weeks). I have lost at least 10 lbs in each of my 3 pregnancies in the first trimester, between te mrning sickness-I think my metabolism just really picks up.

@MamaMoose: The throwing up is less than once a day, so it's not too bad. They asked yesterday if I thought I needed something, but I told them it's not necessary. :)

Have they talked to you about possibly giving you something to help with the vomitting? I didn't gain weight until 20 weeks but I was never down more than 4lbs from pre-pregnancy (and even that was following a bout of the stomach flu). My doc wasn't worried that I didn't gain but I know if I lost much more she would have wanted me on zofran.

I'm diabetic and my doc is concerned that I've lost too much weight? They keep asking me if I'm starving myself or not eating in order to have good blood sugars, but I track what I eat! Baby and I are both healthy, so they're glad about that, but surprised because I've been losing about 3 pounds between each 3 week appointments I throw up maybe 4-5 times a week, and I do eat.
There isn't a lot of advice needed, but I thought I'd share because this was an odd one for me!
