For our IVF cycle in July we spent about $4,500 in meds not including the progesterone and birth control pills which were covered by my regular prescription coverage. The RE originally estimated that my meds would be between $3,000 and $5,000 so we were a little to the higher side.

I spent a little over $3k for (follistim, menopur, ovidrel). My initial quotes were for $5-6k but I called WinFertility (part of Walgreens) and they had the best prices. Since my protocol does not have a fresh transfer, I will be doing an FET in Jan 2015 and the meds only cost $300. I was so relieved to only pay that much. I was so scared that I would have to pay another $3k, luckily, that wasn't the case.

The meds are ridiculous!! Many clinics have donated meds from other patients, but usually have a long waiting list, too. Definitely compare pharmacy prices because they do vary.

@bluestriped bee: The out of pocket costs listed on my invoice for my meds were on either side of $5k... I think $5,200 the first time (antagonist) and $4,800 the second time (agonist). The really expensive one was the Gonal-F pre-filled pens.

@bluestriped bee: My IVF meds came out to around $2k, but I was originally given an estimate for $5-7k... so it may not end up as bad as you think! If your insurance doesn't cover them (as mine didn't), look into discount programs - Compassionate Care and First Steps are the most common I think, and can offer 25-75% off.

We were able to get 50% off certain medications through Compassionate Care. My nurse recommended including a personal letter with the application, and I really think that helped us get a larger discount.

Also, get pricing from multiple pharmacies if you can. I found the best pricing through Freedom Fertility. Feel free to message me if you have any specific med/IVF questions!

Bumping this thread. Since I'm on my last IUI, I pulled out our IVF packet from our consult a few months ago and was looking at the prices for IVF. The prices did not include meds. I know it's different for everyone but I'm kinda (early) bracing my wallet for all the expenses. I think I heard that meds are about $5K.

My insurance didn't cover any of the meds. I was lucky and they were only about $4,500. I was on bravelle, menopur and lupron.

Our IVF meds were over $5,000. I think it was $5,500, not including a few hundred for progesterone. I used Ganirelix and Bravelle. The meds cost 1/3 of our IVF cycle. I just can't believe meds can be that expensive!

Wow, and I thought I had good insurance! :( For me, Follistim has come in as the big offender, at $1,497 for four vials. If it weren't for that, it wouldn't be so bad.

Wow, $110! That is crazy. (in a good way.) Are any of you familiar with co-pay cards? I had never heard of them before, but from Googling, it looks like perhaps they help get costs down?

Don't forget the progesterone afterwards (that was like $400 for a two week supply). Stimulation is only the first part of it. And we ended having to get at least one refill (they upped my numbers at one point).

Hi, there! We just confirmed our co-pays for our IVF medicine protocol. For all the medicines, we are looking at about $1,900. Follistim and Menopur seem to be the most expensive culprits.

How much did other IVF-ers end up spending?
