@Mrs. Pinky: we/I had 9 follicles, with 9 eggs. 5 were mature and fertilized. 4 made it to day 5 with 2 of those "better quality" than the other 2. we transferred 2, and got the call the next day that we had nothing to freeze. Would LOVE to end up with some frosties after this next cycle. We could possibly scrape up enough money or put a frozen cycle on a credit card but couldn't afford another fresh cycle.

We are also moving on to IVF #2, unexplained IF. I have a follow up with my RE on Wed so I hope to push for testing again since its been exactly a year since we started working with them. I'm also curious if my Med protocol changes, I came out with 8 eggs last time, transferred 1 and froze 2. Despite the frosties we are leaning toward another cycle to increase our odds getting a baby. Were you able to freeze any?

We're moving onto round #2 unexplained. Protocol is not changing for the next round, and if it doesn't work, we'll get a second opinion (probably CCRM). It's incredibly frustrating especially when everyone else around us is on baby #3, 4, and even 5!

@waiting4you: Hi there! I remember you too! I'm happy you are squeezing in another round of IVF because I thought I recalled that you were going to wait until 2017 because of the house. And yea... if you don't hate your doctor, and you were somewhat happy with IVF results even if you didn't get pregnant, I'd just stick with the same RE. I, personally, do not like any more hassle than is needed. AFM right now, I transferred my only two frozen embryos. Transfer was easy peasy without problems. Blood test is the 15th! Eeek!

@agold: HI!!! I remember following you closely on the other IVF board. I took a break for a while (since early October) from Hellobee to just completely clear my head of all this. I'm excited to hear you had your FET! How many did you transfer? How did it go? How long till your beta?! And I'm with you..I don't hate this dr and can't imagine starting over somewhere else when we're this far into the "fine tuning". If round 2 of IVF doesn't work, we are definitely going to see someone else for a second opinion.

@erinbaderin: Thanks for this info. Similar to you, the only "change" the dr. is making from one round of IVF to the next is backing off on my meds. I'm small (4'11" and weigh about 110 lbs). I've been responding very well, almost too well, to the already lowered doses of gonal f, menopur and ganirelix, and the same with my IUI's when I was on a low dose of clomid (and produced 4 and 5 larger follicles). I triggered on day 8 of my last round of IVF with 9 follicles. Dr. said he's never had a pregnancy come from a day 7 trigger and very few from day 8. The highest success rates come from day 10 triggers. So he wants to slow things down more and lower the doses of the same meds. ** Bonus..I have some left over from the last round and will need even less this round! Score! :)
Another funny/frustrating story that goes along with the meds..I have them in a drawer in the fridge. I'm super crazy about anything else going in the drawer or leaking on them, etc. so they're wrapped up in plastic bags and nothing is allowed near them. Que thanksgiving day prep...I ended up putting painters tape over the front of the drawer with paper lining the clear front and a "DO NOT OPEN" sign so that extended family wouldn't see what was in the drawer. Made for a super cramped fridge after taking that drawer out of commission :silly:

@waiting4you: I'm so sorry you are in this position. I just had a FET on Friday and if that doesn't work, I'll be in your same position - moving on to IVF #2 with an unexplained diagnosis. Since I'm not there yet, I unfortunately don't have any advice. Nothing has been "wrong" and I plan to pay for another cycle with my current RE. I like him fine enough, even though another local RE has higher success rates. My current RE will offer a nice discount for my second round so I will likely just stay with him. I'm entirely out of pocket and this second round will be entirely on a credit card. Bummer but I'm doing it for peace of mind. I can faintly imagine myself doing a third round with the other doctor in the summer time if my poor bruised back/hips/butt can take it. Best of luck to you, doll. :goodluck: Please keep us updated with what you do because I'm really curious myself.

I did a second round of IVF with unexplained infertility - I had DOR but not for any findable reason, and nothing to point to why the first one (2 transferred) didn't take. I also got a second opinion and the doctor recommended a different protocol but that was just to try to get more eggs (which didn't work). The one thing the second doctor recommended that the first hadn't was a hysteroscopy to "correct" the shape of my uterus. The first doctor had said "there's no evidence that an arcuate uterus affects fertility". The second said "There's no evidence that an arcuate uterus affects fertility, but we can't find anything else that's causing the problem so since this is the only thing that's abnormal, it might not hurt to try it." After having that surgery I did 4 more IUIs, all of which failed, before moving onto our 'last chance' IVF (our next step was egg donation), which resulted in a son who's almost 2.

@bluestriped bee: I soooo wish acupuncture was covered by our insurance. Unfortunately it's not and was costing $80 per session. I wanted us to have the vet best chances possible so we made it work, but can't keep it up. I agree, it helped with so much more than IVF. How old are your little ones now?

@waiting4you: oh, ok. Yeah, we don't have hardly any IF coverage so my IUIs and IVF were all out of pocket. In your case, I would stick with the Dr that takes your insurance.

Oh, I did Accupuncture for the past 2 years now. (The one thing my insurance does cover.) I love it. I started seeing her for fertility but I think it has helped with my anxiety over the years. I think it contributed to reducing my stress during my infertility struggle and then pregnancy and helped me stay relatively calm when my water broke at 28 weeks and managed to keep the twins in for 6 weeks. So for me, Accupuncture was a 'life (& baby/pregnancy saver'.

I'll also mention, the last round of IVF I did expensive fertility acupuncture leading up to and during the cycle, took all the vitamins suggested by the dr starting months ago (coQ10, vitamin E, fish oil, vitamin c, prenatal a and baby aspirin), ate gogi berries (at the suggestion of acupuncturist), ate a healthy diet and avoided non-stick cookware (also suggested by acupuncturist).

@bluestriped bee: I definitely would consider/have considered a 2nd opinion, however this Dr. is the only one that takes our insurance in the area (and by area I mean within an hours drive). Because we are fortunate to have $15k in coverage per year, we need to stick with this dr. at least till we've exhausted our insurance.
Beyond this next round; We have a financial commitment to purchase the home we live in in July and because of all the previous procedures and going beyond our coverage for 2015 we haven't been saving the way we need to. That being said, we can try another round of IVF in January 2016 then we'd have to wait till we could save money after July.
As far as tests; No polyps, no fibroids (even went in and did a procedure to check), genetic blood testing, dye test, saline HSG test, saw an endocrinologist to test for immunology issues (none), lining was extra thick so no issue with that, did ICSI so we know they fertilized and progressed to 5 day transfer. Estrogen and progesterone levels perfectly normal. Just had an endometrial biopsy to test for endometriosis (negative). I'll add that hubby and I are both 35 with no health issues.
Really frustrated. Trying to stay positive going in to this next cycle but the frustration of the unknown is making that difficult.

Are you or would you consider getting a second opinion? After my 3 failed IUIs with an unknown diagnosis, I ended up switching clinics. (There were a few reasons that made me switch... office policies, staffing issues and just overall felt like I needed to move on.) At my new clinic, they did a bunch of other tests and finally diagnosed me with PCOS and DOR and put me on meds. I did try another 3 more IUIs but they all were unsuccessful. I finally moved onto IVF and that when I got my first BFP and now my twins. I know how hard it was for me to decide to switch clinics because I know it would mean I would have to delay and wait to do all the new client workup but in the end I am so happy I switched clinics.

Anyway, I'm thinking of you!

Wondering how many of you out there are going into a 2nd round of IVF after continued "unexplained infertility". My husband and I have literally gone thru every test and procedure I've read about that could possible be done, yet every result comes back "normal". While in theory, that sounds great, but after 2 IUI's with great follicles (4 the first round and 5! the second round) and a failed round of IVF
(transferred 2 "great" embryos)...I'm left wondering what it could be. This second/next round is our last try for 2016 since it will use up all of our insurance coverage. We would need to wait till 2017 to try again. Any advice? Similar stories? What ended up working?
